Ken O’Keefe recently texted this update on the convoy’s progress into Facebook:
“We are racing to catch the ship to Al Arish, 30 of us, including
myself, are on the ship. The will fly to meet us there. Barring
further delay, we will be in Gaza within the next few days.
Several survivors of the Mavi Marmara still with a green light to go.
Wish us all good fortune. To our family in Gaza, we hope to see you
What follows is the original post on the Road to Hope Convoy to Gaza:
My friend Ken O’Keefe and his Road to Hope convoy are stuck in Libya at the Egyptian border hoping to gain entry and passage to Gaza to deliver much needed aid.
There is a media blackout around this story. In fact this link is the only one that has appeared on the horizon thus far.
Ken was on the Mavi Marmara that sailed from Turkey to Gaza. They were intercepted in international waters in May of this year by the Israeli military and 19 passengers were killed. Ken is one of eight survivors from that flotilla mission who are also part of the Road to Hope Convoy.
We are petitioning BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera to cover the story. But so far, zilch…
The convoy has been stuck at the Egyptian border for a week. Things looked hopeful at first but now it looks like they may have to spend an extra 100,000 British pounds that they do not have to get the convoy to Gaza by boat instead of by land.
We are trying to get the international community to put pressure on Egypt to grant them safe passage to Gaza.
Those who wish to help out should contact their nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate.
