Angelina Jolie, Ignorant?

And is unfit to be a U.N. “Goodwill” Ambassador?

The Bosnian group, Association of Women Victims of War has caused major drama for Jolie, probably more drama than in the actual first feature-length film Jolie directed. The film, according to Jolie, is based on a love story between a Serb guard in a prison camp and his former girlfriend, a Bosnian Muslim detainee.

The Bosnian women’s group is upset because the Bosnian woman character featured in the film was a former rape victim (as part of the characterization), and Jolie did not meet with the group to discuss what actually happened to women during that time period.

Now, I don’t know if the Bosnian women realize this, but they’re giving mega-attention to Jolie, which will probably cause more people to actually go see the film (which has yet to even be titled). Maybe that was the idea. Perhaps it will be good news for them as people with any intellectual capacity will want to find out what really went down in the civil conflict and the group will finally be able to make their stories known.

But does this all mean Jolie shouldn’t be an ambassador? Maybe we should do a little bit more research on Jolie and see what her actual role is and what she’s actually accomplished. Surely people make mistakes, even Hollywood actresses. I don’t know what all goes into making a feature-length film, but I’m guessing there are plenty of details, some of which may accidentally get overlooked.

My suggestion is another film, perhaps a documentary about the struggles of women during Bosnia’s civil war. Jolie can be a producer. Voilà! problem solved.
