Boulder, Colo. December 21, 2010—Food Fight, a Boulder-based food project that aims to gather the community to celebrate food, announces the inaugural Boulder Baking Competition, held in January 2011.
The Boulder Baking Competition encourages bakers, food enthusiasts and anyone who just enjoys a good time in the kitchen to share their favorite sweet bread recipe with the community. The Awards Ceremony, held at Vermilion Design Agency in Boulder, will feature guest speakers Robyn O’Brien of The Allergy Kids and Jen Myronuk, who will discuss their food stories.
“We want to strengthen the community by providing this fun event to keep Boulder unique and desirable,” says Alexandra Hanifin, Founder of Boulder Baking Competition and Boulder native. “The bake off will provide great exposure of Boulder’s love for food, our local and organic ingredients—not to mention our amazing local food companies.”
Contestants are encouraged to connect with their own relationship with food. Alternative baking methods such as gluten-free, vegan, organic or local ingredients are just another way to personalize the breads and give the competition a Boulder touch. The contestants will be supplied with a baking package and a score sheet with the categories the contestants will be judged on listed. Contestants will bake at home and bring the final bread, in the compostable baking mold supplied, with a list of ingredients used, to the judges on January 15th.
Winners will be announced by Robyn O’Brien at the Awards Ceremony at Vermilion on January 16th. Prizes include: 1st Place: $500 & Featured Article in Elephant Journal, 2nd Place: $200, 3rd Place: $100. Register online by January 7th. It is a $15.00 entry fee and the money will be donated to the School Food Project Fund and The Allergy Kids Foundation.
