SuicideGirls > Belle & Sebastian {NSFW} video.

Via on Mar 13, 2011

Suicide Girls are about reclaiming sexuality from Playboy, mainstream fashion…it’s user-submitted, alt, feminist.

More:

“SuicideGirls is a community that celebrates ALTERNATIVE BEAUTY and alternative culture from all over the world.

Since 2001, tens of thousands of models have submitted MILLIONS OF PHOTOS to this website hoping to become SuicideGirls.”

Warning: very nakey.

This is SuicideGirls love letter to Belle and Sebastian. NSFW

I have been a HUGE Belle and Sebastian fan since my best friend put “The State I’m In” on a mix CD we played incessantly on a cross country road trip.

When their new album Write About Love came out and had a song called “Suicidegirl” on it, I had a complete fan girl moment which indie rockers are supposed to be too cool for.

When I told the other girls we were all so honored that we decide we had to do something to let them know how much we loved it. Carrina, Cheri and I got together with Mike Marshall who made our other movies and created our video ode to Belle and Sebastian.

Hope you like it!

xoxo

Just received email from longtime colleague, friend, passing along criticism of SuicideGirls on elephant, and sexy "porn" content on elephant generally. My response.

Appreciate your taking the time. I make mistakes all the time, and am open to dialogue and controversy and questioning–that's what web 2.0 is great at, that magazines aren't–comments. Readers make our content better and truer and keep things improving, it's a two way street. So thanks man.

My reactions in past to this question, as editor, re our mission or brand as you put it: http://www.elephantjournal.com/?s=nuddha http://www.elephantjournal.com/2010/01/our-editorhttp://www.elephantjournal.com/2010/08/at-the-hufhttp://www.elephantjournal.com/2011/02/to-hear-mahttp://www.elephantjournal.com/2010/12/sex-and-th

    Generally:

Sexy stuff I have little problem with, overall, as long as there's a connection to our "brand," as you put it–editorial mission, readership, demographic. I don't know anything about SG, but they seemed to have a connection–user-submitted (therefore not objectification in conventional way), punk rock, alternative, empowered, feminist, their mission as stated in my blog is to reclaim sexuality. I don't have a problem with fun simple honest sexuality.

And I liked the Belle and Sebastian song.

And it's good traffic (as is anything controversial). Traffic is a tacky term for readership. If readers don't like it, they shouldn't click it. They and you and your friends should read the 95% of our content, articles, video (that's an accurate number overall) that isn't sexy in any way.

As for gun shy readers, I ask for and appreciate their criticism and welcome their articles about other subjects–still I find it sad that I hear from you or another friend earlier about this SuicideGirls' blog when I haven't heard from either of you in months, at least…and in that time I've published literally 500 blogs on great subjects from great writers, at least half of them of real lasting quality, and maybe 50 in that time with any sexy aspect, and 5 of those at all controversial.

    Yours,

    Way

    Waylon's been checking out ThatHipsterPorn.

If you read up on it, you'll come to see that this is actually stylized stuff that the original Suicide Girls would have thought belonged in Playboy. It's too soft – literally soft lens style shooting – and not rough looking enough. The piercings on these girls aren't offensive, in fact, not much about these girls would offend any mainstream porn seekers. It's the Hipsterization of the Suicide Girls.

Here's the thing. Whatever you like to look at, whatever turns you on, is fine, but women want to be seen as women, sexual beings, beautiful, sexy, intriguing, even when we don't look like the most popular "image" of femininity. Some people like to look at women who are unique, they don't like to buy the corporatized image. If you really want to see Suicide Girls, women who made sexuality their own, find a real Suicide Girl site to check out. You'll see the difference right away…

It's on our blog roll. Was hanging with Lindsey and Mathew and remembered I hadn't been checking out THP for nearly six months, and they used to be one of our best sources for sexy stuff for both genders, and all persuasions. I've blogged 'em up directly here twice and credited them many times, the founder wrote in first time I did to thank: http://www.elephantjournal.com/?s=%22hipster+porn

Jeez, I didn't even know suicide girls were still around. There was, at one point, a prohibition against any of the girls doing commercial shoots or otherwise working as a professional porn actress or model. They sold out a LOOOONG time ago. Now it's all just people in the industry with tats and stupid piercings. Pretty sure the original suicide girls are not excited about it.

Jeffrey: What is up with all these damn cute girls with eyebrow rings?!

Coming from someone with big dumb holes in my ears and covered in tattoos, you look like an idiot with an eyebrow ring… Just saying!

Other then that little rant, I approve haha

Aww. Adorable. Although, it did weird me out a little at the end there when they got all serious and looked into the camera. Either way, I love this.

And I'm glad someone agrees with me about eyebrow rings. Who knew the septum would be so c…ute and the eyebrow would (continue to always) be so… uh uh.

Elena: i've been revisiting my love for B&S in a near-rabid way for the last week. this is something that happens to me every couple of years. it must be in the air!

Waylon Lewis I liked it, mostly. I'm getting some hell from good friends for posting it. I realllly don't have a problem with sexuality. I don't know anything about SG, though ironically I think my friends who are complaining do. All I know is what I've put in the blog, from Wikipedia (yah, literally): they're all about empowered, self-submitted, punk rock, tattoos, alternative. Sounds (and looks) good to me.

  5. [...] No, of course, these images aren’t porn. I would nevvver post anything like that. [...]
