Making Peace with 9/11

I’m sure you remember the above image vividly…the twin towers of the World Trade Center in flames, the two jets that crashed into them, having been hijacked by terrorists. The 10th anniversary of 9/11 is coming up in five short days, but it feels like it was just yesterday!

There’s been a lot of hype, a lot of fear building up around this day. Newscasts, “Special Reports,” remembrances of all that went terribly wrong…the damage, the destruction, the loss, fear, pain, suffering…oh, and of what could go wrong again, if we’re not careful!

Bush’s much-quoted “War on Terror” has, in my opinion, created a lot of terror in the world! When you fight gunfire with gunfire, everyone suffers.

It’s like the Ghandi quote “an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

Osama Bin Laden has been killed. Sadly, so have some of the Navy Seals who went in to do the job. Security is tighter (and more ridiculous) than ever before, to the point where people fear for their health while traveling (hello, radiation!). The building of a Mosque near “ground zero”, in the name of peace, has been seriously delayed due to our fear of any and all Muslims. The separation between “us” and “them” seems even greater than before. The problem is, things are not so black and white.

True, people have been caught making nasty attempts at blowing up planes and such. Passengers have become much more alert and active in their attempts to stop any such violence. There have been alarming attacks in London and other locations. There have definitely been incidents of violence since 9/11.

But, what’s the real threat? Is it really from these outside sources? Or, is it from the terrorist within? We all have one! “9/11” was a terrifying event, but it’s our own fear, our own minds that plays that event again and again and make us afraid of another such event happening. That’s what “terrorism” is really about…playing on our ability to scare ourselves to death!

Fear is based on the ego. It wants to keep you scared, behind locked doors and hiding under the covers. All of this, in the name of “safety.” Are you going to feed it these horror stories, or are you going to take it by the hand and show it a different way?

I believe that there are things we can do to make friends with our minds and create more peace within (despite the outside circumstances and fear mongering) which will, ultimately, create more peace without. In other words, world peace starts from within!

Mohandas Ghandi is also remembered as saying a “small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.”

So, instead of getting swept away amidst all the hype, like so much flotsam and jetsam, I invite you to try a different, more spiritually centered, approach, and alter the course of history!

Along those lines, I’d like to tell you about some really empowering events that are happening around 9/11/11. These are all designed to help you turn that fear around and create waves of peace around the globe!

The Peace Intention Experiment 9/11

This is an eight day on-line scientific experiment, starting on 9/11. Created by Lynn McTaggart of “The Intention Experiment” and facilitated by top-notch scientists and major universities, including UC Irvine, University of Arizona, St. Petersberg University (Russia), Penn State University, and Princeton University.

This may very well be the largest scientific experiment in history! It’s “a global laboratory, testing the power of thought to heal the world.” ~ Lynne McTaggart

And, you can be part of it! It’s all about using the power of the mind to create more peace in the world. Doesn’t that sound awesome? I know I’m excited! Is it weird to get excited about creating peace? I think not!

You can read all about the peace intention experiment, and find out how to get involved, via my Elephant Journal report, “Tired of all the horror stories and fear mongering around 9/11? Take peaceful action!”

Here’s a video to check out, too….

And, yes, in case you’re wondering, and in the name of transparency, I am involved with the Peace Intention Experiment. You’re right…consider the source! And, I’m involved with this organization because I’m passionate about what they’re doing and I want to support them! Merging science with spirituality? I am so right there!

Anyway, here’s another 9/11 event worth checking out:

One the Event

There’s another really great video and you can see it by clicking on the link below:

So, I hope that this has shed a different light on 9/11 and shown you some positive actions that you can take to honor the damage and injury of what happened on that day…and lives of those lost. I’m sure they would want more peace in the world. I know you do, too. Take peaceful action now! You have the power to create more peace in the world via these two powerful events. Do it! Remember, “world peace” begins from within.

Oh, and if you feel so inclined, please share this liberally with your friends, colleagues and loved ones. Thanks!

Peace Out!
