What’s the latest from the eco runway? From New York to Milan, the Spring/Summer 2012 lines are showing us that there is truly an ethical spirit coming to the forefront of design.
It is amazing to think that the Spring/Summer 2012 fashion week presentations have been underway for close to a month now. We kicked off the season with our announcement of the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris during the first few days of September, and now things have come full circle with the close of Paris Fashion Week today. Plenty of designer and runway celebrities have reveled in the media spotlight, but some very deserving names on the ethical fashion and textile innovation scene might have slipped under your radar.
Are you a sucker for eco fashion? Looking for some new sites to steer you in the right direction of what to buy and what designers to pay attention to? Peruse this list of top 20 eco fashion sites and add a few to your reading list.
They help us find out about new designers, industry news, trends, learn what sustainable fashion means, and discover all the swanky events we can attend on a global level – these are our eco fashion writers and designers, our go-to girls reporting all the news fit to print, from the exciting and beautiful to the all-too-often tragic and wasteful designer landscape. These are the pioneers of a new type of fashion that explores, connects and draws us in to what the industry could be if we simply supported it more.
Ever found yourself eyeing a cheap tee at Forever 21? You might want to rethink that decision.
The sustainable fashion community was infuriated when fast fashion giant Forever21 knocked off indie eco-label Feral Childe – and as word spread online, so was everyone else. Petitions were signed, Facebook pages were started and mainstream audiences actually took note. It wasn’t hard to see why they garnered so much support: With Feral Childe’s devoted following, Forever21 had picked the wrong little guy to pick on.
Jezebel wrote: “Forever 21 has been sued for copying more than 50 times by designers including Anna Sui and Diane von Furstenberg.”
Yeah, that sucks. But fortunately you can show your support for independent designers by sporting a Stop the Fashion Pirates tee.
