Making waves in Colorado

The in-land Ocean Movement

Trawling is raiding our coastal oceans, our industries are jeopardizing our marine protected areas and our consumptive society is contributing to plastic playgrounds in our waters.

Colorado is the home of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration  (as well as NIST and NCAR) and they are one of the national organizations participating in this weekends forum at the Boulder Public Library.  There is a growing inland ocean movement, generating a buzz amongst cinematographers, scientists and citizens; tapping into the local technical talent and raising awareness of international ocean issues.

This Sunday the Colorado Ocean Coalition is hosting a one day public symposium to address ocean issues and proposed solutions. The luminaries at Making Waves in Colorado  include American oceanographer Dr Sylvia Earle, Jim Toomey (cartoonist of Sherman’s Lagoon), David Helvar (author of 50 Ways to Save the Ocean), and Dan Basta (Director of NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary Program), among other international oceanic experts.
