Beauty on the Mountaintop: The Graceful Elegance of The Sól Goddess.

“Beauty is a Light in the Heart.”

Kahlil Gibran

My work is about an emotion  for which I have no words.

~ Robert Sturman

Noelle Beaugureau, The  Sól Goddess, is a frequent and luminous subject in Sturman’s work. Together, they have created a highly inspired body of work in the mountains and by the sea. Noelle left a career in the fashion industry and is now a celebrated yoga teacher in Los Angeles. She designed and hand-made her dress for this shoot (with the exception of the last image). Keep your eyes open for Noelle’s debut in the next issue (May 2012) of Yoga Journal, featuring a full page image from this series.

A dedicated yoga practitioner himself, Sturman's work has increasingly focused on capturing the timeless grace and embodied mindfulness of asana. His portraits, whether set in the lively streets of Manhattan, the expansiveness of Malibu's beaches and canyons, the timeless elegance of Walden's New England, or the bleakness of San Quentin Prison, remind us that there is beauty everywhere. In Sturman's own words "I often think of Rumi: 'I can't stop pointing to the beauty.' That feels right to me." ......
