Why Women should Vote Obama.

Via on Mar 25, 2012

Gloria Steinem:

“From his personal life, who he married to, how he treats his daughters, he understands that women are absolutely full human beings. He has a good heart, a good mind, treats people with dignity, doesn’t court conflict and represents the best in this country.”

Huh. Really? Funny, this piece by Glenn Greenwald paints quite the different picture:

It's very sad to see well meaning people work so hard to lie to themselves about this man. Like his predecessors, he is a mass murderer and a war criminal who has expanded the drone war from one nation when he took office into six (that we know of), who has built a "vast drone/killing operation" – who has based America's foreign policy on "the secret killing of individuals" around the world (many of whom have been WOMEN and CHILDREN mind you!). And who of course has signed into law a measure depriving every American of the fundamental right to due process, such that the military can now legally abduct any American they choose and render them to foreign nations to be tortured. Torture remains a permissible policy in this government, the deployment of a vast and unregulated surveillance state here at home proceeds apace, while police attack and abuse non-violent protesters at will in our streets with no condemnation issuing from the White House.

And of course, that's not even to go into his shameful bailouts of the wealthy banking elites at the expense of the working and middle classes, nor his utter inaction on numerous onrushing ecological catastrophes (watch for Keystone XL to magically reappear after the election…). And none of this even touches on the fact that Obama is fully in favor of perpetuating the extractive economic colonialism that is so dreadfully oppressive to the Global South, and which falls MOST heavily on impoverished women and children globally.

If this represents the "best in this country" – then I shudder to imagine the worst.

If Obama "understands that women are absolutely full human beings" why does he authorize the killing of (mostly brown) women around the world – illegal under international law – citing 'collateral damage'? What a grotesque misrepresentation of the facts! It would be more accurate to say: "he understands that [American] women are absolutely necessary to his re-re-election chances."

I understand it's hard being a liberal right now – but denial and self-deception isn't the answer. By all means, consider the 'good' aspects – but to ignore the murderous and tyrannical actions overseen and approved by this administration is to abandon all pretenses of intellectual integrity.

Vote for Obama as the lesser of two evils, if you must, I understand – but please, for the love of all that is decent and human, be conscious enough to hold your nose while doing so.

‎"Woman's' Vote" is such media ploy….What difference does sex make for Obamas': Pro NDAA, GMO, WAR and $Corporate policies? He did not just come in with Bushes' problems, he amplified them, while giving fancy speeches and broke most ALL of his conscious campaign promises….anyone who tries to be conscious that still supports Obama after his actions these 4 years, has not been paying attention…Alex Jones was totally right in "the Obama Deception"

Roz Lynn Dorf As women, I believe that the war on women unleashed by the GOP, should be a red flag that the GOP wants to go back to the days before Roe v. Wade. I'm old enough to remember the time when women and girls died from illegal abortions. Most of the comments are from women too young to remember. Listen to Gloria, and the other women who fought in the trenches so your lives would be better.

Denise Fuller Castellucci There is absolutely no evidence that Obama is going to ruin our country. None. He inherited a country that was hemorrhaging a half a million jobs a month due to GOP (and some Dems) lack of oversight of financial markets and hemorrhaging public funds via two unpaid for wars and huge tax breaks to the ultra rich. These are facts. Faced with absolutely no help from republicans in the worst crisis this country faced since the Great Depression he got this country back from the abyss.
I do not like some of the laws that were hold overs from the "war against terror" but if he repeals them and we get attacked all hell would break loose. He is a moderate so I am not going to agree with him on everything, but he is not ruining this country.
The republicans offer nothing but attacks on minorities, women, LGBT citizens through 24/7 appeals to fear, and an empty economic philosophy that has been proven to be toxic to this country. Republicans laughed when California was being bilked out of billions in the energy crisis caused by speculation and criminal trading. Republicans are never interested in properly governing much less governing all it citizens fairly. They demonize the poor, immigrants, single mothers, and all those who are powerless, weak, and just trying to survive.
As a woman and human being republicans are toxic because they are so far right that they are forced to defend in the indefensible in order to get any votes.

Paul Leard Women should vote Obama because most of the corperate monies goto lobbist and not back to the people, including woman, and Obama has no plans on outsing lobbist from our system anytime soon, in fact he nutures them more. But then any of the running canditites are in for keeping this current system intact (except Ron Paul), so it doesen't matter who get the presidental seat, corperations will win again.
