“You don’t take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it.” ~ Michael Slevens

“You don’t take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it.”

~Author Unknown

In photography, I have always enjoyed landscape HDR (High Dynamic Range Imaging). The process involves both pre and post production manipulation of the images. This method boosts the natural range of colors reflecting the way the eye sees the actual scene.

The basics of the process involve taking five pictures of the same subject, each at different exposures (a tripod is a must).  Images are then merged on top of one another using special software. The photos are not created; they are only enhanced. Using technology to assist in creating photos is one of my favorite ways of making a captivating image.

Most of my photographs are produced using this method, which takes the art of photography to a different level. More often than not, after taking hundreds of pictures only several will “work” and give the painting-like appearance that is desired.

I didn’t want to tell the tree or weed what it was. I wanted it to tell me something, and through me, express its meaning in nature.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,

—————

Growing up in Green Brook NJ, Michael J. Slevens had an early start in photography. His father had a dark-room in their garage and helping him develop black and white pictures is one of Michael’s earliest and fondest memories. In high school, Michael took every photography class that was offered. However, just as it is today, it’s always remained just a hobby. Five years ago, Michael re-located to Houston (Texas) with his wife, Lisa, and he takes every opportunity he can to create landscape photographs.
