Don’t believe in reincarnation? Do believe in Gay Rights? There’s no such thing as a Buddhist heretic.

Via on May 28, 2012

The tradition of Buddhism (I’m Buddhist, this is what I’ve been taught) is this:

“Always trust the principle one.” Meaning, trust your own judgment before any outside (theistic) wisdom.

“Do not follow what I say. Only do what I say if it meets your experience.” ~ Buddha

Dalai Lama: “If Buddhism and science conflict, we go with Science.”

I don’t have the exact quotes, but that’s the gist.

PS: that’s why, say, if reincarnation doesn’t makes sense to me, but is a Buddhist “belief,” I (after much consideration and study) toss it.

  1. Padma Kadag says:

How does your philosophy jibe with "accept everything, reject nothing"? It seems to me that HH's comment regarding science, if in fact that is what he said, was starting from a "Buddhist" perspective in reference to buddhists. The "As it Is" view which is a result of authentic buddhist training does not contradict the empirical protocols for scientific observation and inquiry.
