Quote of the Day: Greatness, Ambition & Assh*les.

Source: funstuffcafe.com via Patty on Pinterest

“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”

~ Mark Twain

Some people like to sit back and criticize rather than actually doing anything.

You have big dreams, big ambitions? You must be an egotistical asshole. Striving for greatness, want to change the world? Eff that, people will tell you. Aim for the middle. Aim for “good enough.” Aim for average.

When you find yourself talking with someone who belittles your dreams:

Run!

Great people (and true friends) aren’t threatened by the dreams and ambitions of others. They don’t sit around playing backseat driver in other people’s lives. They are busy pursuing their own dreams and giving a helping hand to those who do the same.

They are busy getting it done.

Kate Bartolotta is the strongest girl in the world. She is the love child of a pirate and a roller derby queen. She hails from the second star to the right. She doesn't know how to behave with all the apples and ibexes. She doesn't suffer from her eight million freckles, she loves them! She drinks her lemonade right from the jug. Like a rolling stone, Kate gathers no moss. Kate loves kale, being barefoot, Dr. Seuss, singing too loudly, gallivanting, palindromes, blackberries, Elvis Presley, magic tricks and (of course) elephants. She has been charged with (and found guilty of) overusing the exclamation point! When she's not writing, you can find her practicing yoga, running in the woods, playing with her kids, devouring a book, planting dandelions, changing the world and doing her dishes. Kate does not play the accordion. She is on her way to becoming a fabulous massage therapist, a mediocre writer and a compassionate friend to all. This year Kate aspires to finally give up on learning to knit and will instead spend that time writing for elephant journal. Connect with Kate on Facebook and Twitter

This is awesome, Kate. I'm struggling with this right now in trying to deal with the all the negative criticisms my last article received. It's definitely much healthier to listen to the people who want you to succeed and don't try to belittle you.

    • Yes! Your article was awesome. Waylon reminds me when I'm getting tons of criticism that it's "the nail that sticks out that gets hammered down." When you stand up for what you believe in, someone is bound to disagree (probably nastily if it's on the internet!). It's okay. See if they have anything valid to say that you haven't considered, and if they don't, keep listening to the people who believe in you.
