Miracle Technology that solves 50 different problems: Roads made of Solar Panels.
Using garbage, making roads into power grids, heating roads, making roads into signs…I lovvit. Now make it work!
Here’s their FAQ (a few more Qs and As are below, too) and a ton of discussion here on Reddit.
The Solar Roadways project is working to pave roads with solar panels that you can drive on. Co-founder Scott Brusaw has made some major steps forward since our first visit back in 2007, so we visited him again for an exclusive update on the project, including the first ever video recorded of the Solar Roadways prototype! For more information visit http://www.solarroadways.com . This Solar Roadway project is highlighted as one of many planet-friendly solutions in the feature film by YERT – Your Environmental Road Trip. To learn more about YERT, visit http://yert.com .

The glass they’re developing for the task is surprisingly grippy! I’ve felt a couple samples. Felt more grippy than asphalt.

They will likely melt it off with heaters in the roads– powered with energy sent from another section of road that has more light on it OR from power stored IN the roads.
