How to Be an Explorer of the World.

Curiosity fuels many of my decisions. Probably too many.

Still, I’d rather kick myself than always wonder “what if?” As I get older, sometimes the gap between “Carpe Diem” and “think before you act” gets a little bigger, and that’s probably for the best. But then there are those days, those seasons that are all about exploring, moving beyond our comfort zones, following that little spark inside that says, “Do it!”

Maybe it’s because it’s fall or maybe it’s because it’s Friday. Maybe it’s because I’ve been feeling inspired and wanderlusty lately. Whatever the reason, this piece from Kerri Smith’s book made my morning! Thanks Laura!

Kate Bartolotta is the strongest girl in the world. She is the love child of a pirate and a roller derby queen. She hails from the second star to the right. She doesn't know how to behave with all the apples and ibexes. She doesn't suffer from her eight million freckles, she loves them! She drinks her lemonade right from the jug. Like a rolling stone, Kate gathers no moss. Kate loves kale, being barefoot, Dr. Seuss, singing too loudly, gallivanting, palindromes, blackberries, Elvis Presley, magic tricks and (of course) elephants. She has been charged with (and found guilty of) overusing the exclamation point! When she's not writing, you can find her practicing yoga, running in the woods, playing with her kids, devouring a book, planting dandelions, changing the world and doing her dishes. Kate does not play the accordion. She is on her way to becoming a fabulous massage therapist, a mediocre writer and a compassionate friend to all. This year Kate aspires to finally give up on learning to knit and will instead spend that time writing for elephant journal. Connect with Kate on Facebook and Twitter

Love this in the way I love the Buckminster Fuller 'rules'. As a fellow adventurer I often walk the edge between why, and why NOT, with regard to carpe diem/thinking before acting. Your list above reminds me that it's ALL a new frontier, if you approach it that way.

  2. I like to think of myself as an adventurer, and look upon the world and universe not only with great wonder but also with awe. I want to see everything, experience all that I can and hope that in My next life Iwill continue on with an even broader consciousness . Thank you journal for your constant reminder that existence is a wonder as well as an inspiration.
