Taking Back Soft Rock for the 99%!
Wikipedia defines the term Yacht Rock as “a pejorative name used to retrospectively describe the soft rock format that peaked in popularity between the years of 1975 and 1984. In part, the term relates to the stereotype of the yuppie yacht owner, enjoying smooth music while out for a sail.”
WTF? Is it just me or does that sounds like a description of a Romney family vacation? We protest. There’s no way Tagg Romney is cool enough to even know these songs, let alone listen to them while he goes sailing. Stereotypes be damned! Consider this week’s playlist a revolution of sorts. A taking-back from the one percent of some of the best soft-rock songs of the 70’s and 80’s!
Never mind that these songs are perfect for yoga, especially Hall & Oates during the abdominal section of class, and the depth of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Southern Cross” making for a lovely and meditative shavasana, but I’m guessing these little magical moments would no doubt be lost on anyone who uses the Caymen Islands as a tax shelter. Even if they take a yacht there to deposit their money. Or perhaps I’m stereotyping the Romneys. Then again, perhaps some stereotypes exist for a reason.
When you see the Southern Cross for the first time
You understand now why you came this way
‘Cause the truth you might be runnin’ from is so small.
But it’s as big as the promise
The promise of a comin’ day.
“Southern Cross” ~ Crosby, Still & Nash
