Honestly, I don’t know where start.
I would love to write something eloquent and moving, yet I’m overcome with disbelief and horror and I can’t help but think really? I could go on about why this happening and the implications etc., but at the end of the day, it’s simply about human rights.
Rather than spending time blaming certain groups for this travesty, I simply urge you to get involved—if in no other way than to sign the petition.
This heinous bill has been stopped once before, so let’s keep strong to support human rights, no matter where they are in jeopardy.
Gay Star News reports that the “kill the gays” legislation would broaden the criminalization of same-sex relationships by dividing homosexuality into two categories: aggravated homosexuality and the offense of homosexuality.
‘Aggravated homosexuality’ is defined as gay acts committed by parents or authority figures, HIV-positive people, pedophiles and repeat offenders. If convicted, they will face the death penalty. The ‘offense of homosexuality’ includes same-sex sexual acts or being in a gay relationship, and will be prosecuted by life imprisonment.
To: President Yoweri Museveni:
In solidarity with people from across Uganda, we ask that you keep your promise to uphold Uganda’s Constitution and the human rights embodied within it and veto the Anti-Homosexuality Bill.
Your comments, thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated. My heart is simply with those suffering under oppression and although this is just one such case of human rights violation occurring in the world, by applying pressure, we can put an end to this bill at least…and then the real work continues.
