Safety tips for New Year’s Eve. ~ Jennifer Townsend

Are you hosting or attending a New Year’s Eve party? Be prepared with phone numbers of taxi companies or free ride services.

The cost of a cab is not cheap, but it sure beats the alternative.

A DUI costs offenders an estimated $6,600, according to the California Department of Alcohol and Drugs Programs, and an alcohol-related motor vehicle crash kills someone every 30 minutes. If you are drinking, do not drive this holiday season. Call a cab on New Year’s Eve. ~ lajolla.patch.com

In the counties of Hartford/Middlesex/Windham/Tolland/New London in Connecticut, AAA is partnering with AmRide to provide free rides home.

If you live in Washington D.C., Maryland or Virginia, you can call SoberRide taxi service for a free ride home.

Burlington Vermont, Springfield Massachussets, Utica/Saratoga/Amsterdam or the Capital District in New York? Call these guys.

Denver, Colorado? Here’s an attorney who will reimburse you up to $35.

Tacoma County, Washington? Here you go.

The rest of us should follow these guidelines set by usa.gov.

And try not to drink too much. I’d hate for you to live forever in infamy for making a fool out of yourself  like this fella:
