believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check

but that is not what I have found.

I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay.

    One has to wonder how Tolkien 'knew things' that his contemporaries did not….. :)

    He wrote the Hobbit as the World raced toward WWII and after his own experiences in WWI times. Then Lord of the Rings was written from 1937 right on through WWII to 1949. What remains sad is that evil is still so alive and well.
