How We Can Save our Earth: Frances Moore Lappé on “EcoMind.”

Walk the Talk Show with Waylon Lewis: Frances Moore Lappé.

“Every aspect of our lives is, in a sense, a vote for the kind of world we want to live in.” ~ Frances Moore Lappé

This lady is all about power, possibility, joy & honesty. We’re in love.

Waylon interviewed Frances Moore Lappé via skype as part of our Walk the Talk Show: One Take: In the Moment series. Frances is a social activist, thought leader & best-selling author…& a sweet, fun hero of elephant’s. Why do we love her so? She addresses depressing reality head-on…but turns it around & looks for possibility—& finds it. Waylon (in his Boulder home, “Hotelephant”) and Frances (in her office in Cambridge, with a voice made weak by a long conference call with the UN) talked about her new book, EcoMind, & how to galvanize positive, fun change in the midst of real crisis. “The real cause of hunger is the powerlessness of the poor to gain access to the resources they need to feed themselves.” ~ Frances Moore Lappé

“We’re not trying to go against human nature, we’re trying to go with it.”  ~ Frances Moore Lappé

Frances Moore Lappé is the author of a long list of amazing, thoughtful books including Diet for a Small PlanetDiet for a Hot Planet and EcoMind: Changing the Way We Think to Create the World We Want. She is the co-founder of three national organizations that explore the roots of hunger, poverty and environmental crises, as well as solutions now emerging worldwide through what she calls Living Democracy. She was honored by the James Beard Foundation as the Humanitarian of the Year and Gourmet Magazine named Lappé among 25 people (including Thomas Jefferson, Upton Sinclair, and Julia Child), whose work has changed the way America eats. She is the cofounder of three organizations, including Oakland based think tank Food First and, more recently, the Small Planet Institute, a collaborative network for research and popular education seeking to bring democracy to life, which she leads with her daughter Anna Lappé. Frances and her daughter have also cofounded the Small Planet Fund, which channels resources to democratic social movements worldwide.

“Hope is not what we find in evidence, it’s what we become in action. ” ~ Frances Moore Lappé
