Oh, Sweet Irony. ~ Ramesh Ramloll {Poem}

Oh, Sweet Irony

And here we are,
Proud and tall,
Believing with all body and mind,
That without our ego,
Our purpose cannot stand,
Our hand cannot move,
And, our life cannot proceed.

So we march on,
Clinging to this only true friend,
Who as always,
Is ready,
To entertain us,
With its fresh plans of fulfillment.

We face life’s many challenges,
And resist many of its miseries,
With the help of our dearest,
Not realizing that suffering itself,
Is what keeps it vital.

And so, when we wrestle incessantly:
“How can we stop suffering?”
Our buddy is quick to remind us:
“What a stupid question to ask!
You are nothing without me!
Absolutely nothing!”

Now, sometimes,
When the mind stops,
We can see that this cannot be!
But a doubt sighs back:
“No one can outsmart the mind!”
Once stirred, this thought,
Gently tucks us in our ego’s embrace.
Shh. Shh. There, there,
Once comforted,
We resolve to follow our ego
With all the suffering it deserves.
