“Busty Mannequins & an Inflated Sense of Beauty in Venezuela.” ~ Laura Ashworth {Video}

Prepare yourself: things are about to get ugly.

In a passage from the video above, “Busty Mannequins and an Inflated Sense of Beauty in Venezuela,” a famed judge of Venezuelan beauty pageants, a man, says, “I say that inner beauty does not exist. That’s something that unpretty women invented to justify themselves.”

What?!

Basically, this man helps to create socially constructed ideas of beauty in Venezuela and takes pride in it. And that’s, well—the worst.

So here you go, try not to throw too many things at the computer while he’s talking.

And in defense of inner beauty—it does exist. This guy just clearly doesn’t have any. Too harsh? I don’t think so.

Remember, we are all beautiful, inside and out.

Don’t let this man tell you otherwise, Venezuela.

About Laura Ashworth

Laura Ashworth currently lives in Richmond, Virginia and has also lived in Sedona and Phoenix, Arizona. She’s a mermaid at heart and thus her passion for barren, water-less landscapes often confounds her. She loves yoga, nature, traveling, art, animals, and anything written by Jane Austen, Vladimir Nabokov, Kurt Vonnegut and Angela Carter. She holds a Masters in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Arizona State University and enjoys cold mint tea, thinking of inventive ways to cook a yummy-healthier version of pizza (which she vows to accomplish one day—any recipe ideas?), and is worried that this bio is starting to sound too much like a Match.com profile. She welcomes new friends. You can find her on Facebook here and Twitter here.

  1. Auki says:

    This is a depressing video. These artificial beauty standards are oppressive & repulsive.

    This is a blatant example of the oppression of women that is ~ sadly ~ perpetuated as much by gullible women as it is by toxic, soul-dead men. Meanwhile, the plastic surgeons are getting rich and laughing all the way to the bank!

  2. Val says:

    sad but true, in peru i see that all the time too, mannequins look the same :(

  3. Busty Mannequins and an Inflated Sense of Adorableness in Venezuela, a acclaimed adjudicator of Venezuelan adorableness pageants, a man, says, I say that close adorableness does not exist. That's something that airedale women invented to absolve themselves.
