Play it till the Cows Come Home.

image

“I could dance with you till the cows come home. Better still, I’ll dance with the cows and you come home.” ~ Groucho Marx

A jazz band from the United States called The New Hot 5, decided to pull over near a field of cattle in Autrans, France and play music for them.

Seeing the cows’ reactions was really startling to me. I didn’t think that they would be so moved by the music—but they were. This brought to mind a quote:

“We love dogs and eat cows not because dogs and cows are fundamentally different–cows, like dogs, have feelings, preferences, and consciousness–but because our perception of them is different.”

~ Melanie Joy

While I am not vegan, this video gave me pause for thought.

In some cultures dogs are common food and in others cows are forbidden food. It truly is all a matter of perception influenced by the cultural norm in which one was raised. Further, once we are adults, we have the freedom of choice to eat in a way that we feel is the most humane. Hopefully more people will think about this important choice as more food becomes altered and inhumanely raised.

But back to the delightful video of cows loving a tune. Enjoy!
