love heart myself

Hoy renuncio a seguir siendo mi peor obstáculo.

Hoy renuncio.

This year I’ve been trying to be more present —focusing on keeping my mind from wandering to the past and towards the future.

During part of my practice, I have noticed how harsh I’ve been on myself all these years.

I began to analyze and measure the impact that my harsh words have had on my moods as well as paying attention to what the ramifications were on my days. The search for perfection has become a ridiculous and vicious cycle that I now understand will never lead me anywhere. Today I woke up tired of the same, hurtful words. I was tired of listening to the used record replay over and over again in my head every time I looked in the mirror.

I decided: if a record should play, let it be one with encouraging words full of love, empowerment and hope.

So today I decided to quit replaying my old, worn out record of negativity. It’s time to make room for positive thoughts. I will repeat these words until I memorize them, until the record is destroyed after too much use.

I quit getting up every morning to look in the mirror and search for changes that don’t belong to my body.

I quit constantly standing on a scale, and allowing that number to determine how much I’m worth.

I quit using excessive amounts of makeup to cover my flaws.

I quit hitting myself with offensive adjectives to describe myself.

I quit depriving myself of the enjoyment of delicacies to weigh a few pounds less.

I quit staying at home so others won’t see me.

I quit caring about what others think of me.

I quit projecting negative thoughts about myself.

I quit empowering my physique over my intellect and my heart.

I quit questioning why a man approaches me and shows interest in me.

I quit thinking I’m the problem and everything can be fixed if I change.

I quit feeling jealous of other women who have been in relationships with my current or past partners.

I quit thinking they have something I don’t and only they have the magic formula of happiness.

I quit comparing myself with my friends, cousins and women who I do not know.

I quit being blind to the unique qualities that only I possess,

I quit not giving myself credit for my accomplishments and abilities.

I quit thinking that every compliment I get is a lie said as an attempt to make me feel better.

I quit degrading myself to get someone’s attention, to make him understand that I am worth it when in fact I am the one who needs to see it.

I quit transforming myself in order to make someone like me.

I quit putting my life on hold to wait for someone who will never return.

I quit settling for any man that looks in my direction and I quit having impatience for waiting for someone who knows how to appreciate me.

I quit allowing my partner to physically, emotionally or psychologically abuse me.

I quit not trusting myself—I have the strength and wisdom to change my world and destiny.

Today I quit being my worst enemy and I quit being the antagonist of my life.

Today I quit being my worst obstacle.

Today I quit.
