July Blue Moon: Keeping it Real While Shooting for the Stars.

*Editor’s Note: Astrology isn’t a religion. We’re not sure it’s a science, either. It’s magic, maybe. But, as with feng shui, say, things affect things. So as long as we don’t go blaming our problems on the stars, as long as we assume responsibility for our own actions…well, hell, a little auspicious coincidence and applicable wisdom can’t hurt. And so, with that grain of salt…enjoy! ~ the Editors

Once in a blue moon there’s a pull that comes over us and it’s important to be aware of it.

It usually shows up as a push to go somewhere or do something you’ve never done before. When you feel that urge to go outside the norm it may be karma, fate or destiny calling your name.

On July 31st, 2015 a blue moon, falling in the sign of Aquarius will light up the night sky and pull some of us into some facet of our karmic destiny. The opportunity will be ripe to see potential in something that we haven’t before.

A “once in a blue moon” moment is approaching.

With Venus—the planet of love, relationships and things we value—in the early stages of her rare retrograde, karmic situations are kicking up. Her place in this blue moon is what makes this time all the more special.

The signs of Aquarius and Leo will be caught up in a balancing act which could have an impact somewhere in our lives. Aquarius, the sign this blue moon falls in, is the innovator of the Zodiac. He’s one that likes to think outside the box, be different and get his rebel on. Leo, the sign the Sun is shining in and one being pulled by the moon, will want us to be fearless lions, find our creative edge and have a little fun.

My belief is that this full blue moon is going to help us see what we need in order to be more satisfied in our lives, given all the elements in play. Maybe we’re missing something important and we finally have a chance to grab hold of it. However, given the Aquarian edge and feel we might need to look outside the box and go into some new territory to discover what it really is. Aquarius loves to be different after all.

It might surprise you when it shows up, but if you keep your awareness open something important might come out of it.  This is a full moon that keeps us moving despite the odds. With Jupiter’s fast approaching square to Saturn, it wants us to reach beyond the norm and shoot for the stars (Jupiter) but also reminds us to be practical and keep it real (Saturn).

And on that practical note, let’s keep it real:

The moon itself won’t be blue. It will be big and beautiful, though, illuminating the night and helping many of us gain new awareness as all full moons do. The actual meaning behind the term blue moon dates back several hundred years.

There are several definitions but the easiest one simply means a second full moon that occurs in a calendar month.

Apparently the name came about because a blue pencil was used to circle its occurrence in the Farmer’s Almanac.

It’s something that had to be done in order to sync up the moon’s cycle with the calendar year. Sparing everyone the boring math, I’ll just say that every so often we end up with an extra full moon. In order to make things neat and tidy—calendar wise—that extra full moon has got to go into one month of the year.

This time, it falls in the month of July.

Interestingly enough, Blue Moons, or two full moons in a calendar month, aren’t actually all that rare. They occur every two to three years. The last was on August 31st, 2012 and the next one will be on January 31st, 2018.

However, this one taking place on July 31st is pretty special in my opinion given all of the other astrological influences happening around it.
