Hairy Solution?

The events unfolding around the recent oil spill off the coast of Louisiana seem to many of us to be unfathomable.  We yearn to help, but it seems as if there’s little we can do.  But… it turns out, there is something we can do!

Getting a hair cut.

Turns out, human hair clippings are excellent at absorbing oil and barbershops and beauty salons across the nation are being urged to save their clippings.  Even if you are like me and you clip your own hair – you can take your clippings to certain barbershops and add them to the cause!

Seems to me that short hair should be IN this Spring!

Note: if you have a pet that needs haircuts, or one that sheds, you can send in THAT hair too!

hey roger, i want to read your book. hurry up and finish it! 😉 should i just call around and see who is participating, before getting my hair cut?

  5. Roger Wolsey says:

Shirley Jo, 1) I'm going to try to have it done before the end of summer. 2) That might be the best way, and also a way to encourage other shops to join in the cause by hearing about it from you! See the links in the article, they might be of help to you also.

  7. We did this about 10 days ago at Pikes Peak Earth Day. We had members of the Paul Mitchell School Green Team giving haircuts and collecting the hair for mats. It was one of our most popular exhibits all day.

    Excellent! Bravo!

I found out today that DAWN dish soap is the best stuff to wash oil off of oiled animals in spills such as these. Dawn apparently donates soap to help in these cases……

  10. roger wolsey says:

yep. i normally buy some sort of fru fru natural stuff. but Dawn deserves some support at this time so I'll be purchasing Dawn dish soap for the rest of the year to show them some love.

The CBC also shared the news of how Canadians can contribute to the antidote by offering their hair to the huge spill in the Gulf. Canadians are beginning to collect and send hair south of the border! This helps, but the Governator of California now has a better, preventative measure: no more off shore oil drilling off California! He's converted to the green-side! May other leaders value the natural beauty of what they have versus a grab for quick, unsustainable and destructive drilling for the black ooze.
