We’ve all heard the other versions.
The Whitney version, anyway. And maybe if you were really a fan you sought out the Dolly Parton version.
This version, on the other hand, hits every little place where you’ve really felt love—and had to let go.
Josh Weathers performed this in a Dallas theatre two years ago, and dedicated it to his mom:
(If the crescendo at 4:46 does nothing for you, please check your pulse again.)
It’s corny, because we’ve heard it so many times, but that doesn’t make it any less poignant if you let yourself feel it. We all feel that sappy, raw, tenderhearted crescendo sometimes; it’s a big part of why we’re here.
Make a wish for everyone you have loved, do love or will love. For love that you’ve been silent about, and love you’ve shouted to whoever will listen. Look out at the gorgeous full moon and any remaining stars and make a wish.
Above all things, I wish you love.
