In a world obsessed with beauty and perfection, one must consider where the “disfigured” stand in all of this?

In honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Swiss disability rights group Pro Infirmis launched an inspiring awareness campaign, entitled “Because Who Is Perfect? Get Closer.”

Featuring disabled mannequins in Zurich stores windows, instead of the otherwise “perfect” ones everyone’s used to in latest fashion, the campaign aims to be very provocative, compelling us to reflect on what’s perfect and how we can accept whoever is different from us—in this case, the disabled.

This organization has redefined perfection by recreating disabled mannequins.  In a world obsessed with beauty and perfection, one must consider where the “disfigured” stand in all of this?

Mark Zumbühl, of the Pro Infirmis Executive Board, summarizes the heart of the campaign perfectly…

“We often go chasing after ideals instead of accepting life in all its diversity.  Pro Infirmis strives especially for the acceptance of disability and the inclusion of people with disabilities.”
