*Eleditor’s note: Astrology isn’t a religion. We’re not sure it’s a science, either. It’s magic, maybe. But, as with feng shui, say, things affect things. So as long as we don’t go blaming our problems on the stars, as long as we assume responsibility for our own actions…well, hell, a little auspicious coincidence and applicable wisdom can’t hurt. And so, with that grain of salt…enjoy!

*Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, is one of the oldest sciences on the planet and considered a relative of astronomy. It is an important and valuable part of the ancient Vedic texts. This complex, logic-based, and also intuitive science, has survived thousands of years in India’s Vedic tradition and is still considered a highly valuable tool of guidance and life insight. It is not a religion, but rather a philosophical understanding of human and cosmic existence. In Sanskrit, Jyoti means light. Essentially, the study of jyotish is the study of light and how we interact with the cosmic light- within us and within the cosmos. Vedic astrology, or the sidereal approach to astrology, casts charts differently than Western, or Tropical astrology. The meanings, implications, and purpose of jyotish is therefor different, as are the details used for prediction and the indications given below.

As we continue to turn inward, and move towards more introspection and inner awakening during the waning Moon cycle, may we each look for the gifts arriving to us.

Though this may come through darkness and upheaval, may we trust that this is the necessary process of turning shadow into light.

With Jupiter now retrograde, and with our focus shifting from Scorpio into Sagittarius in the coming days, carefully and intentionally use this time to manifest your desires, bringing dreams to the surface for awakening and awareness.

This is the time to be clearly identifying what you need and want in your life, what is working, what isn’t, and what needs to shift in order for you to be nourished. This cycle brings us bigger changes, a certain cracking open in order to see our missing pieces. For now, gently provoke your dreams and desires. Stoke your inner embers. Trust in the process of removing and letting go, in order for your new life story to fully unfold.

Horoscopes for the Waning Moon Cycle {December 6th to 21st}

*Horoscopes are based on your Vedic rising sign. You can also check your Moon and Sun signs for further insight. Do the same with your Navamsa signs for further clarity. Do not use these horoscopes with your “Western Sign” as there is likely no correlation. These horoscopes are meant to be used as a broad overview of the current transits and obviously do not address the specifics of an individual’s unique chart.

Aries: The darkness of the past weeks will slowly face the light in this cycle as the stalemate of planets in your 8th house break up and shift into your 9th house. Though there will continue to be moments of you being broken open and feeling your vulnerability, I encourage you to start using the brokenness as a resource for gaining more light. Ask questions, contemplate, and peel back the layers that are keeping you in the dark. Use this time to go more deeply into your pains and suffering in order to find the missing awareness you need for awakening. What are the patterns that continue to haunt you? What relationship dynamics keep provoking the same core wounds within you? What career struggles do you keep facing? What are your truest, most basic needs around support, stability and nourishment? And what needs to shift within you in order for these needs to be met?

Work with issues around father, soul needs and desires, healing, death, change, self expression and early childhood wounds that may be hindering your ability to receive comfort and nourishment. The intense planetary energy that has been concentrated in your 6th house begins to break up as Mercury and Sun shift into your 7th house on the the 13th and 16th. You are gaining clarity with intuition, with sensing and feeling as a result. Cancer: Jupiter is now retrograding back through your head, and will be assisting you in retracing your mental and emotional steps as a result. The coming months provide you with ample pacing, walking in circles and dancing over old terrain. For now, your intuition and creativity are shifting, as are your passions and romantic and relationship desires. With Mars exalted in your 7th house, relationships are burning hot! Are the flames stoking your passion or burning you? As the shift of attention from your 5th house, now moves to your 6th, you should be orienting yourself towards healing, transforming and overcoming in the coming days and weeks. With effort and intention, as well as willingness, you are embarking on a time of healing- in the mental body, in the physical and soul body, as well as creatively. This will have nourishing effects on your emotional body as well as your overall liberation process. Now is an excellent time to seek support from healers, therapists and guides in order to assist your healing process.

Leo: The intense pressure begins to break up in your chest and heart center as Mercury and Sun shift into your 5th house on the 13th and 16th, yet Saturn and his slow, steady and painful pressure continues to work his magic on your heart. The shift of attention to your 5th house will bring awakenings of your intuition and passion, desires for romance and a deeper relationship with your gut wisdom. This will benefit your emotional body work. Exalted Mars in your 6th house is intensifying your desire and compulsion simultaneously to heal and be healed. Use this time effectively to maximize your efforts. Working with digestion, the stomach will serve you. Consciously work with gut functions and metaphors in order to make meaning out of your transformation process. Retrograde Jupiter assists you in this task. The drive to be nourished and satisfied is driving your efforts. Work with the shadows that are keeping you from being well fed in your life and relationships.

Virgo: Emotional and mental confusions and chaos around your creativity, artistry, courage and with your action steps begins to shift. Suddenly your emotional body work opens doors where there were only windows, and you make some progress with your dharmic and career efforts, desires and decisions. This awareness will be assisted with alone time, meditation, retreats and extra self care. Time nourishing yourself is effort well spent. Retrograde Jupiter requires you to work with your gains, friendships, relationships, emotions and passions in new ways. Retrace your steps and be willing to look at the same stone, and turn it over, a few more times. Leave no stone unturned. Exalted Mars in your 5th house provokes passion, romance, desire, and strong gut responses. Listen to this wisdom and let your tiger out of its cage.

Libra: The intensity of the past weeks with self expression, speaking and using your voice, shifts into a more generalized need for self expression and sharing your creativity. Nourishment and money issues begin to shift as you gain momentum and a stronger desire to take effective action steps. Your intentional and courageous action steps will benefit your career and overall ability to share and shine, though it may feel as though you’re retracing steps now that Jupiter is retrograde. Be creative and resourceful, be direct and one pointed, but remember to take action rather than getting lost in preparation mode. It is through your creative action steps that you will ultimately be more nourished on all levels of your life. Let the passions of your heart stir you and your momentum. Though exalted Mars is in your heart center right now likely causing some heart burn, use this pain as a transformational opportunity. Underneath your anger, rage and inner fire, is an intense passion. Direct this intentionally for maximum results.

Scorpio: Your head begins to clear and you begin to make space for more than just worry, fear and doubt as Mercury and Sun shift out of your 1st house and into your 2nd house on the 13th and 16th. This provides room for practicality, creative activation, and potent action steps. Let these influence your career. Exalted Mars in your 3rd house of creativity and courage provide the power you need to get the job done swiftly. Art, creativity, and the hands, are resources for you right now to help with your efforts of change and transformation. With more space in your head, you can shift your focus now to changing the way you are nourished- financially, through food, with relationships, your environment and on an emotional level. Retrograde Jupiter in your 9th house will provide ample opportunities over the coming months for you to revisit your hearts desires, what feeds you and deeply satisfies you and your heart. Working directly with the emotional body and its wisdom is the most potent resource for you at this time. If the emotional body tells you it’s not working, you must listen.

Sagittarius: Retrograde Jupiter in your 8th house is going to provoke emotional responses in you in the coming months, emotions that are old, deep, and perhaps have been neglected, lost or pushed down into your depths. Prepare for deja vu type experiences as you’ll be sensing and feeling more deeply from your depths. As the stalemate of four planets shifts out of your 12th house of loss and endings, alone time and retreats, there is an invitation to start fresh, awaken, and open to new possibilities. You may feel this most within your relationships, your career, with friends and with wisdom and teaching desires. Expect some bumps in the transformational process before you arrive at clarity however. Exalted Mars in your 2nd house is giving you an insatiable appetite for nourishment. Don’t overdo it. The tendency right now is to try to nourish yourself, but making choices out of old habit, default modes of operation, and overcompensation. Be careful and selective in your choices, and address the underlying issues of malnourishment.

Capricorn: With Mars exalted in your first house, your head is hot and fully charged. Your heart is passionate and you’re fanning the flames. Your relationships are provoking your needs for nourishment, support and safety. Your ego is provoking your shadows and haunts, your dance with dark and light. With the stalemate of planets shifting out of your 11th house, your attentions changes from transforming, gains and acquiring, into releasing, letting go and finding more sacred alone time for rest and relaxation. This is a valuable use of your time and efforts, but knowing you, even the vacation will become an opportunity to work. It’s true, retreats and ashram settings are a career opportunity for you in the coming weeks and may provoke some business ideas. I challenge you though to sneak in as much meditation, time in bed, relaxation and rest into your life over the coming week as you can. You’ll be glad you gave yourself some TLC now, before Capricorn Season hits!

Aquarius: There’s an intensified orientation towards self care right now that is asking you to attend to your strong need for letting go, releasing and being alone. Relationships are invoking a passionate, strong response from you, one that may be fueled by anger and rage. These emotions require you to look beneath the surface. Ask yourself what your deepest passions are that are being stifled? It is a wise idea to make self care a top priority, as well as retreat time, alone time, or perhaps traveling abroad. Your career is making some shifts right now that may provoke gains and losses simultaneously. Now that Jupiter is retrograde in your 6th house, it’s time to revisit clean up efforts in your gut. Your efforts will be assisted through identifying what old, unprocessed emotions need to be more fully digested in order for you to feel more nourished and satisfied in your life. Explore the connection between heart and gut. This will have a direct impact on your career satisfaction as well.

Pisces: The shift of intense energy out of your 9th house, and into your 10th house brings gains and a surge of purpose into your career and dharmic pursuits. Relationships continue to provide ample resources for awakening and addressing your shadows. Who and what you are inviting into your life should be a source of study and curiosity in order for you to work with your own dark matter. Emotional body and mental body become tools for this process if used to assess parts of your self that you fear to look at. All of this material is a resource for your healing work with others. Ultimately healing yourself provides a shift in your career, who you work with and why. Now is a time to receive gains, but continue to address concerns around deep nourishment, and the depths of your needs and desires.
