Greater life starts when we stop ignoring the inner voice.

An old Cherokee tale talks about a battle between two wolves that resides inside us. It goes like this :

An old Cherokee told his grandson, “My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth.”
The boy thought about it, and asked, “Grandfather, which wolf wins?”
The old man quietly replied, “The one you feed.”

What is the Inner Voice ?

The Inner Voice speaks not in words but in the wordless language of the heart. It is like an oracle who only speaks the truth, your truth. If you have found your truth within yourself there is nothing more in this whole existence to find. If the Inner Voice had a face, it would be a glowing sereine face – alert, watchful and able to accept both the light and the dark. A mind clear and clean like a crystal which allow the Inner Voice to dive deep into the sea of emotions and emerges again towards the sky.

Ignoring the Inner Voice

There are times in our lives when too many voices seem to be pulling us this way and that. Our very confusion in such situations is a reminder to seek silence and centering within. With so many enticing stimuli drawing our attention outward, we may have lost touch with our ability to connect inward. For instance, I remembered doing things I didn’t like doing over and over because I was becoming so focused on what society, friends, or family expected from me that to listen to my heart, to speak from my heart, seemed silly. This isn’t to say we should toss aside outside opinions, but considering to bring our own inner voice into the mix and see what happens. Having always an intense sensation in the gut – the seat of true emotions, means that it is time to begin to pay attention to the impressions and your responses to them. With practice, you will learn to recognize when fear and doubt are drowning out your true inner voice that is struggling to be heard. You are listening to your inner voice when your body is filled with HELL YES, whereas the voice of fear and doubt fills your body with YUCK. You’re listening to your inner voice when you feel empowered, authentic, and peaceful. You will notice that good people and positive experiences are drawn to you with ease. You are listening to fear and doubt when you feel stagnant, unfulfilled, angry, and resentful. By listening to your inner voice, you become the creator of your life rather than a bystander.

Clearing the Way

Listening for your inner voice is like training a new muscle. It won’t happen overnight, but if you make a consistent effort to hone it, the stronger it will become—like a tuner tuning into the right frequency. Practicing mindfulness in all activities seems what works the best with me. “When you open your eyes, it is truth opening his eyes. When you close your eyes, it is truth who is closing its eyes. You are walking, it is truth. You are sleeping, it is truth resting. You are speaking, it is truth speaking. You are silent, it is truth that is silent.”
This is one of the most simple meditation techniques. Slowly, slowly everything settles by this simple formula, and then there is no need for the technique.

Living in Truth

When you are guided by your inner Truth then you live as truth – alive, radiant, contented, blissful, a song unto yourself. Life becomes grace because you are able now to hear your true self and be in harmony within, so being in harmony with the outside world too.
Remember to keep a light heart on this journey and always move in the direction of your happiness, even if it seems daunting at first. You have the answers within, though sometimes you may not want to listen. It’s not easy being human, but it’s good to know you are not alone. Though the voices of fear and doubt seem the strongest within you at times, remember you have the choice to single out the lone voice that remains steady and strong and will always remind you of who you are and what you want. You will know it when you feel it, and your body and mind will rejoice in the “rightness” of it all.
