How to Transform Your Home Office for Top Levels of Productivity in 2019

Working from home has so many benefits. You can make your own hours, you don’t have to wear business casual all day, and you can even work side by side with your friendly co-worker, your pet. But when it comes to making your deadlines and keeping on top of your daily tasks, you NEED a space that is just for you to work.

So, where do you start? Putting together a home office isn’t exactly setting up a laptop in the dining room. You should have a designated area where you can focus and be productive! In order to help you find the top levels of productivity, here are our tips for transforming your home office into a space you will LOVE!

Welcome to Work

One of the most important things about being productive, is that you need to feel at ease. Providing yourself with a space that is welcoming will allow you to create, edit, write, budget, and get all of your work done efficiently!

No need to keep lying to yourself about procrastination because you’re on your couch all day in your PJ’s! Make an office that feels like you are a part of it, and you will get a LOT of work done in your new space.

You can add a pop of color to the walls with a simple paint job, or a personalized wallpaper. You can add frames, painting, and other wall hangings. Pick a desk that fits your personality, but is also useful. No matter how you set up your home office, you can transform the room to be a welcoming space just for you to be productive!

Stay Organized

Building a modern 2019 home office is all about clean organization. Making sure that you have everything you need to succeed will make your work far more industrious! Here are just a few ways that you can keep your office organized, but still maintain your welcoming feel.

  • Storage. Finding the right storage for your tax paperwork, your laptop accessories, your sketch pads, whatever your need to get the job done, is very important! You can choose from steel filing cabinets, to the trendy colorful storage boxes, but make sure it can all be stored easily. Keep those personal details personal!
  • Clutter. Keeping your desk and your office comfortable is really important, but it should also be PRACTICAL! A good way to stay organized is to cut out the clutter, keep your space fun, but with only the necessities you need to run your business! Post-its, stapler, writing utensils, laptop, desktop, whatever you have, keep it to just the basics!
  • Have a place for it! Your office is meant to be entirely functional. A great organizational tool is to have a place for something, and keep it there. Keep your office space dynamic by always knowing exactly where your office supplies are! You can use on your desk small storage units, drawer separators, and paper trays to keep your things where they belong.

By staying organized, you create a home office that will create productivity!

Light and Sound and Temperature

Sometimes when you work from home, it’s hard to keep a clear line between your home life and your work life. When it comes to your home office, keep it just that, your OFFICE! Don’t make your office a part of your dining room, or bed room, or kitchen.

Have a space that is entirely for your work. That way, once the door closes, it’s time to get down to business! Once it opens again, you’re ready to be yourself in your own home! That way the hustle and bustle of your home won’t distract you from the tasks at hand!

Lighting is so important to being productive during the day. Natural lighting and the right temperature will do wonders for your work day! A study from Cornell showed that your productivity during the day may be directly affected by these conditions!

Time to Head Home

One of the best things about your home office, is that it is at home. But that doesn’t mean it’s ok to bring your work into your home life! Make sure to decompress from work. You can start a night time ritual to close out your day, you cannot answer emails during your non-work hours, and you can leave the stress of work in the office!

Take the start of 2019 to transform your home office into the most valuable, practical, and welcoming space for you to be productive! Whether you add some color to the walls, organize your notes in storage container, or set the right lights, you can use these tips to make your office space unique!
