Show Me – How Feral, Holy, Human Can You Be? {Poem}

I have no interest

In how ‘spiritual’

You are

I am interested

In how human

You can be

And in your seeing

That it does not get

More spiritual

Sacred

Holy

Than that

I am not interested

In your being good

Correct

Mindful

Intelligent

Wise

Or evolved

I am interested in your letting go

Of ideas of good and bad

Worthy and unworthy

All of the labels

And masks

You’ve grown used to

Hiding

Your tenderness and confusion

With

I am not interested

In your being tough

Show me,

How soft can you be?

The softest ones

Have the sharpest teeth

How broken

How surrendered

How primal,

Real

How heartbroken

How cracked open

How viscerally and vulnerably

Can you feel?

Can you weep at my feet

And scream at the sky?

Can you surrender

To your Darkness

Feral and depraved

And to the infinite gentleness

Of a baby’s eyelashes

You hold

Within your belly?

Will you finally spill

The sadness of the world,

Which you keep hidden away

Within a parcel in your heart

For me to see?

I am not interested

In how ‘spiritual’ you are

I am interested

In your deepest wound

Your darkest secret

Your greatest longing

The animal you hide

Your oceanic heartbreak

And vulnerability

The lonely Universe

Behind your eyes

My earthly sacrament

Is simply this

The holy water

Of your

Humanness
