The new Aging-is-Beautiful “non-issue” from Vogue features an actress with extensive, expensive plastic surgery.

Readers of the May edition of British Vogue might have been shttps://www.adweek.com/brand-marketing/british-vogue-partnered-with-loreal-and-mccann-to-publish-an-80-page-non-issue-on-aging/urprised to find another issue tucked inside. More specifically, the bonus content is a “non-issue” dedicated to the topic of age in the worlds of beauty, fashion and culture.

That’s fine. It’s her choice. I respect her activism, her mindfulness, her life.

And it’s your choice. No one should be shamed for any choice that doesn’t harm anyone.

But if you’re featuring a celebration of how aging and wrinkles are fine for women…perhaps celebrate a beautiful woman like Toni Morrison, or…heck, anybody, who honors her natural hair and wrinkles and doesn’t overpaint and doesn’t surgically try to look younger.

I realize that’s easy to say: we’re in a culture devoted to looking perfect, never balding, always getting it up, never sagging, always looking 20. And I wish it weren’t so.

Let’s go back to venerating our elders, and celebrating youth—both. I love the Winter for its slow cold, and I love the Spring for its happy freedom.
