Even when you’re staring loss right in the face, knowing full well it’s coming for you—love is greater, bigger, stronger.

“When you adopt a dog, you know that it won’t be forever, that your dog will age faster than you do.”

Scroll through the images below to read about Scout and the message that will warm every pet parent’s heart:

Our favorite, sweet, heartbreaking, yet hopeful comments:

@_amestagram: “Lost my dog suddenly last month, wish I could give her one last big hug, but at least I know I gave her many in her life.”

@wednesdays_woe: “I’ve lost 8 babies since last January. This post hit me hard. When I rescued each of them I knew this time would be rough. Hope they were happy here. They made life worth living for me and I miss them so so much.”

@booksfallopen: “I’m facing the same situation with my dog, and it is brutal. This is exactly what I needed, thank you. I hope each day with Scout feels full with joy.”

@tracker_girl: “Totally worth it. My heart broke 6 months ago when I lost my beloved pup of 13 years. I would do it all over again (and will). Bless you all!”

@patriciayogi: “An animal has just as much worth as a human being – so it’s more than normal that you will mourn and grief this time with him after 12 years. Enjoy every single moment. Animals are pure love.”

@ashleycox.co: “My sweet girl, Myla, will be 11 this year. It’s hard to think she won’t be with me one day. But you’re so right about all the wonderful things they bring into our lives. Most especially, true unconditional love.”
