  • Tomatoes:

Many gardeners start their vegetable gardening only for homegrown fresh tomatoes. Nothing can be compared to the fresh ripe tomatoes still warm from the sun. You can prepare various recipes from it. Tomatoes are also great source of iron, potassium, vitamin A, B6 and C. It also provides antioxident lycopene.

How to Grow Tomato:

  1. If you go for container then the size of it should be 18 inches. Actually it depends on the variety. But 18 inches will be adjust for almost all kinds. And if you plant in yards then you don’t have to worry about it.
  2. Then plant the seeds and take care of it with proper sunlight, you will get a good quality tomatoes.

Things you need to watch out: Tomato horn worm can be a problem that’s why these large caterpillars should be removed whenever you see them by hand. You also need to check out the signs of blight.

  • Broccoli:

This is a very healthy vegetable. It contains huge amount of calcium, iron and also vitamin A and C. One cup of raw broccoli florets contains 130 percent of your daily requirement of vitamin C.

Growing Broccoli in Container:  You have to plant one broccoli in one pot. The pot size should be 12 to 16 inches deep.

Things you need to watch out: When you grow broccoli you need to watch out for cabbage worm. If you see white beautiful butterflies are flying around your plants, then you must start seeing worms all over the broccoli plants. To avoid this you need to cover up the plants with lightweight bed sheets. And if you see cabbage worms, just pick them off from the broccoli.

  • Peas:

You cannot buy anything that can be comparable to see growing peas in your garden. This is just beautiful to see the snap of peas just plucked from the vine. It’s also delicious and contains fiber, potassium, calcium and vitamin A and C. Peas is very good for health.

Growing Peas in Container:  The container should have to be 10 inches deep and you need to sow the peas about 2inches apart from each. You have to put a support for peas to climb up.

Things you need to watch out: One thing you just need to be careful about is the temperature, because on hot weather peas cannot be grown properly. So plant peas on early spring or autumn or when the temperature is not more than 10-25 degree Celsius.

  • Leafy Greens:

Actually there are lot more leafy greens which are very much good for our health and also delicious. So I cannot recommend just one leafy green. There are kale, spinach, collard, dandelion greens and many more. In general all green leafies contains high amount of potassium, calcium and also various types of vitamins. So you can plan whatever you want.

Growing leafy greens in container:  For kale and collard you need 10 inches deep pot and have to plant each one kale or collard in each pot. For the other greens you can plant few of them in one pot just give a little space between them and harvested small.

Things you need to watch out: Most of the greens are cold plant so they cannot grow well in hot summer. Plant them in spring or fall to get the best result. Hot weather causes them to bolt. Another thing you have to remember that most of them are from Brassicas family. This is why they are prone to cabbage worm infection. Do the same thing to avoid this problem as I said to do for broccoli plants.

  • Carrots:

One of the sweetest and crunchiest fresh vegetables harvested from the garden in Carrot. This is a very nutrient vegetable for your health which contains a high amount of fiber, manganese, potassium and vitamin A & C. If you need to be conscious about the carb intake, then just limit eating because they do tend to be high in sugar.

Growing Carrots in Container: If you sow carrots in containers go for shorter varieties of them like Thumbelina or Danevers half long. You should take at least 12 inches deep pot and sow them two or three inches apart from each other. And if you grow them in the yard then you don’t have to worry about space.

Things you need to watch out: Only one thing you need to be careful about is that, harvest them at the perfect size. If you harvest them in small size you will get the testiest carrots. But if you leave them in ground for too long, those will be overly large and woody. You also need to keep them evenly moist. If the soil is too dry the carrots will be somewhat bitter and fibrous.

So what are you waiting for? Start growing your own garden with one or two or with all of this. You will get fresher vegetables with double health benefit. You also can spend a quality time. So let anything to stop your gardening. Have a healthy life.
