You are my Seashore, my Sunlight, my Salty Sea. {Poem}

I love you.

Why do those words that flow from your tongue sting ever so?

It’s as if you poured sand into my heart and held a lit match beneath it.

Why, when you say those words, do moonstone raindrops fall to form mineral springs at my lips?

Do you know that your language is a secret patois?

Bubbling with hidden meaning,
rich with a bittersweet song that echoes the frogs’ melody on dewy fall mornings by the fen.

Why is it, when you take me in your arms, I come eye to eye with a shore,
one that reaches far beyond my sight?

It’s a special place,
a sea of sorts,
it melts the walls of my mind away.

You are the seashore that washes my worries away.

You are the seashore that I daydream about each waking moment.

You are the seashore that makes my heart leap,
in a way I thought had left me so long ago.

Let me bury my sorrows in the sea-foam and shells.

Let me bathe in sunlight and hold your hand.

Let me wash away my worries in that salty sea.

Let me leave my memories as a footprint trail.

As you set me free with wind against my face,
and I begin to remember the reasons I long for this seaside.

You are the seashore that washes my worries away.

You are the seashore that I daydream about each waking moment.

You are the seashore that makes my heart leap,
in a way I thought had left me so long ago.

But if I let you by my side,
my own seashore,
my own hideaway,

I’ll learn to love myself once more.
