Safely Using Magic Mushrooms for Medical & Shamanic Use
(Copyright Ian Faulkner Soutar July 1, 2019)
The ideal way to do the most commonly cultivated magic mushroom “psilocybe cubensis” is to use the dried form. Use 1/4 gram to 2 grams in boiling water with a few slices of ginger to make a tea. A slice of ginger will boost the potency of the mushroom by 400%. The ginger helps the digestion dramatically allowing use of a smaller dose.
You can exceed the 2 gram dose with caution for Shamanic experiences. Raise the dose slowly. Leave at least 2 days between magic mushroom experiences because the body needs to generate the natural neurotransmitters after they are depleted by a session. Magic mushrooms do not work directly on the brain. Natural visionary neurotransmitters are released by the body and act on the brain.
Magic mushrooms, like LSD do not work at all if you keep taking doses daily. That explains why it is impossible to get addicted to these “sacramental” drugs.
I specified psilocybe cubensis because they are the most commonly cultivated variety and I was growing them in 1978. The spore supplier said I was the first Canadian to buy spores, so I was one of the first cultivators in this country 41 years ago. I no longer use them but have fond memories of decades past when I used them for creative inspiration and for treating depression. It is for these reasons that several US states are proposing the legalization of magic mushrooms for medical purposes. Magic mushrooms are notably more effective for treating depression then any pharmaceutical drugs!
Don’t Use Fresh Mushrooms
It is Not Recommended to use fresh mushrooms shown below because it is not possible to accurately measure the dose. Fresh mushrooms have an unpredictable water content. It is not possible to guess at the dose by counting mushrooms because they can vary in weight by up to 10 times. You must use a balance to measure weight of dried mushrooms. Almost all negative experiences people complain about are actually overdoses due to not measuring them accurately.
The only appropriate way to dry the mushrooms is with a food dehydrator. You can make your own with a new bread box (not an old breadbox which might have mould spores). Add a 25-60 watt old-fashioned incandescent lightbulb dangling from the top and a computer fan powered by an inexpensive adjustable voltage DC power supply going from 3 volts to 12 volts. Prop the breadbox door open slightly to allow ventilation and to keep the temperature below 30 degrees Celsius. It will work as well as an expensive commercial dehydrator.
Measure Dried Mushrooms by Weight
It is highly recommended to use an accurate scale capable of measuring accurately to 1/8 gram. It will cost you less than 20 dollars and will allow you to have predictable and reliable experiences without stomach upset. You can also microdose accurately to boost memory or music enjoyment without feeling intoxicated.
Using this method almost no one will experience any stomach upset!
Finding a Mushroom Growing Kit
Search for “magicmushroomkit” on Google. The Canadian ones are more reliable since the kits are legal here in Canada.
