People who have never been in an abusive relationship tend to believe it would never happen to them.

But this is a dangerous misconception.

Abuse can and does happen to anyone. At any age. Of any race or gender or sexuality. In any kind of relationship.

We never expect ourselves to end up with an abusive partner—which is often exactly how we end up with one. Because we never see it coming.

Katie Hood, CEO of One Love Foundation, hopes to help change that.

By educating the public about the signs and characteristics of an abusive relationship, she aims to help others avoid or (safely) leave abuse.

If these unhealthy behaviors ring any bells, it may be time to take a step back and examine the emotional dynamics of your relationship:
