These Times are Ancient

Written by Deanna Rose

These times feel ancient, I feel them in my ancestry and in my soul. Our lineages have lived through plagues before and we will rise from the ashes.

On this night of isolation in my apartment, I remember times of deep connection. The deepest connection I have felt with “strangers” have been through traveling. One special time that is calling out to me tonight is when I was traveling with my friend Coral Ann in Morocco. We purchased an overnight train to Marakeesh and stayed in a bunk room with two wonderful Moroccan women. We stayed up late talking with them, giggling, and telling stories. By the end of the night, one of the women named Hala generously invited us to stay at her apartment instead of getting a hostel! We were so deeply grateful for this offer and moved by her heart. We called her our Angel. She then went to walk us through markets teaching us about the local culture, herbs and introducing us to delicious foods.

Her openness is so deeply inspiring in this world that can be so guarded. Many are judgemental of tourists and new people moving to their towns all over the world. And then.. there are many that embrace new people, love them and see them as family.

With this virus effecting the entire world, can we finally realize we are a global family? Can we work together to save the earth, the waters, the hungry , the lost and weary? We all have different stories of traumas and blessings. We all can come together to celebrate this precious life. Yes this life can be full of suffering, pain and trauma. This life can also be rich in magical moments of connection, love, belonging, adventure and rebirth. When we connect to our ancestors and ask them how to survive and thrive in these times they say sing my love, dance, read poetry, listen to the birds, watch the animals, find your joy, laugh loudly, scream, weep, and praise every day.
