Another Day. Another Black Man Killed.

*Warning: well-deserved cursing ahead!

~

Another Day. Another Black Man Killed.

Another Day.
Another Black man killed.
Another Black man killed.
Another Black man killed.
Because he wrote a bad check,
Hold him down, pin him, kneel on his fucking neck.
You can kneel on his neck,
But we can’t kneel to reject
The death sentence we were born with,
When we were born with Melanated skin.

You can kneel on his neck,
But we can’t kneel to protest
The inequalities and atrocities that happen to us every day.
You can kneel on his neck,
But we can’t kneel to protect
Our Black and Brown brothers and sisters.

You kill ’em cause they’re Black
Then to cover your ass you label them to protect your racist right to kill.
Call them thugs, gangsters, thieves, robbers….
“Suspicious Black Man.”
“Threatening, African American Male.”
“He didn’t listen, he resisted arrest!”
Shut the fuck up, Karen.
Your privilege is glaring.

Another day.
Another black man killed.
Dead in the street,
While His blood runs freely from the holes left by the bullets that tore through his flesh.
Dead in the street,
After gasping for air, lungs collapsing, shouting, “I Can’t Breathe!”
Looking around, thinking:
“Stop recording and someone please rescue me.”

The video is important because we need proof!
Proof will lead to arrest…will lead to conviction…right?
But proof doesn’t fucking matter.
Evidence doesn’t set the precedent that anything will be done.
It seems the badge that you wear somehow gives you the right,
To kill…unless the suspect is White.

Your lack of melanin gives you the protection.
Gives you the privilege and freedom
That a person of color can only continue to dream of.
All lives can’t matter until Black lives do.
We kneel because we can’t heal.
Healing doesn’t exist when the trauma occurs over
and over
and over
and over.
There’s never any closure.

Woke up to another Black man killed.
Another day.
Another Death.
Another name.
Another protest.
Another hashtag.
Another outrage.
Nothing changes.
Another Black man killed.
Another Black man killed.
Another Black man killed.
