The new emerging music genre for the new world: Conscious Pop.

Conscious music refers to a genre of song that speaks to and from the heart and spirit. It is music with a rhythm and lyrics set to elevate, open your heart, inspire and connect you with the true you; your higher self. It is the intersection of the pop, adult contemporary, and R&B genres with spirituality, awareness, authenticity, empowerment, inspiration, unconditional love, and universal values.

The divine, love or human rights, and justice are the three pillars of Conscious Pop. This musical genre has the potential to effect social change. Thus, beyond the lyrics of music, the artist’s goal is particularly important at a time when music has a significant influence not only on individual lives but also on society as a whole.

Who Is A Conscious Pop Artist?

Conscious pop artists utilize their creativity as an expression of our daily lives to assist and heal individuals, as well, as the society.

A person’s definition of consciousness varies widely. The work of the conscious pop artists represents much more than just a picture on a wall: it’s a dynamic force. Through their work, we are brought closer to the ultimate goal of art, which transcends both material and self. Although their art has aesthetic and financial worth, its cultural significance is priceless.

Pop music that speaks to the soul is what I call conscious pop. Uplifting and enlightening music to help you find and connect with your higher self. On the other hand, conscious pop artists tend to channel their music and lyrics from a higher realm of consciousness. They let their audience in on their most vulnerable selves.

Musicians and songwriters who make conscious pop aren’t primarily motivated by fame, fortune, or a desire to sound like everyone else on the radio; instead, they’re driven by the need to express their unique selves to uplift and empower others who hear it.

It is channeled music typically with the intention to open up the listeners’ minds and hearts, rather than just playing music for them to feel good.

Occasionally, they’ll open up about their hardships to illuminate the experiences of those who may be facing similar difficulties and provide a ray of hope. It’s music that’s meant to raise and empower people. Some conscious pop artists to look out for are Chianne, Rachael Platten, Renae, Raya Dize, and Monique Benabou. Let’s explore some lyrics in subsequent paragraphs.

In 2018, I released a single, “Return to Love” these words in the song are significant and relatable to almost everyone as it tells the story of love. “Open your heart/ Return to love, To who you really are.” The progression tells the narrative of a released bird. Breaking out from the shackles of one’s self-imposed confinement is a fascinating tale. Taking care of oneself is more vital than anything else. Even if you’ve had a difficult past, there’s always hope for a better future.” Turn your face up to the sun/ Root your feet on the ground.”

Another song that stands out specifically for me and fits into this Conscious pop world is “Fight Song” by Rachael Platten. Life is full of difficulties, but we can overcome them, which is what the words in this song mean in our lives. Regardless of how hopeless we feel, Fight Song serves as a powerful reminder to trust in ourselves, dig deep, and do whatever it takes to keep going.

“Firework” by Katy Perry and “New Me” by Chianne are two examples of conscious Pop songs that motivate and empower us to believe in our aspirations and ourselves.

It could be songs like “Lose you to Love me” by  Selena Gomez and “Truly Free” by Chianne, songs that promote self-love and remind us to love ourselves first.

It could be “Worthy” by Madison Watkins, which reminds us of our inherent worth and encourages us to be ourselves, or “Shine” by Fia, which motivates us to be real.

It could be Raya Dize’s “I’m okay,” telling us that it’s acceptable not to feel okay.

It could be “Flames” by Chianne, inspiring and encouraging unconditional love, or Luis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful Planet”, which simply reminds us of the beauty of our world and creates happy sentiments.

The Lyrical Construct Of Conscious Pop

“Words are the vibrations of nature. Therefore, beautiful words create beautiful nature. Ugly words create ugly nature. This is the root of the universe.”

– Masaru Emoto

Scientist Dr. Masaru Emoto believed that our thoughts and words had the power to alter the molecular structure of water. Positive ideas and words might produce beautiful patterns in frozen water, whereas negative thoughts and words could produce less aesthetically pleasing patterns.

A song’s message, its frequency, and its subliminal messages are all factors that determine whether a song is detrimental or uplifiting towards culture and humanity or uplifting. Spirituality and universal ideals are incorporated into an otherwise sexualized, drug-fueled, and egocentric pop music genre.

Conscious pop is aware of its language. Choosing words with a good connotation may have a beneficial effect since words are like spells that shape our world, just as Dr. Emoto explained in his experiment about water.

The lyrics of songs in this genre may be thought-provoking, heart-opening, encouraging, and uplifting at various points. They are universally relatable. Therefore anybody can take something away from the lyrics.

In Dr. Emoto’s experiment, we see the physical expression of how positive reinforcement generates beautiful outcomes. Because we are 70 percent water, Dr. Emoto’s experiments with water serve as a better paradigm for how we should speak to ourselves.

The more positive our inner story, the beliefs we tell ourselves, and the stuff we consume, the more positive our lives will be. It’s fascinating that the water’s health improves when surrounded by good energy. This is motivational because it shows that our actions impact the world around us.

If Dr. Emoto’s water experiment can teach us anything, it is that our environment is everything. What better approach to nurture and improve our surroundings into a realm of positives than to start with something that we are inevitably exposed to every day; music.

Music has the ability to reach more people. It has the power to change the world for the better. It gets beyond the mental filters and has the power to alter someone’s cognitive structure and the world’s outlook for the better.

My Journey With Pop Music

But now I learned to fill my cup. Now I learned that I am enough… As long as I’m true to myself, I’ll be truly free’

– Chianne (Truly Free)

Due to the prevalence of themes such as drugs, sex, and other vices in popular pop music, I choose to refer to my style as “Conscious Pop.” Using my music and conscious lyrics, I want to encourage and motivate people to believe in themselves, have self-love, follow their hearts and their aspirations, and trust the process.

As a conscious pop artist, my goal is to write songs that convey themes of love and self-acceptance, self-worth, and the concepts of authenticity and empowerment.

In addition, I include Reiki therapeutic elements into my singing to assist the listener in receiving healing in those specific places.

The energy of Reiki is intense and strong on its own. Mind, body, and spirit may all benefit from it. Stress, worry, sadness, weariness, and chronic pain may all be alleviated by removing negative energy blockages that get in the way of the body’s natural energy flow. Sound healing has several advantages, including:

  • A heightened state of awareness
  • Unlocks repressed emotions
  • Relieves anxiety and stress
  • Promotes deep meditation
  • Enhances focus
  • Reduces insomnia and depression
  • Normalizes blood pressure
  • Relieves physical pain
  • Relieves emotional trauma

As a result, conscious pop acts as music therapy for the mind and body. It’s easy to go into a state of trance when you listen to music. Playing soothing music might aid the recipient in finding their sense of tranquility. That’s why it’s so important to choose the appropriate music. It helps you calm your mind and thoughts while discovering serenity.

I am delighted to be one of the forerunners in this new terrain of conscious pop.
