The smacks of slut shaming.

Dear Officer Megan,

I am deeply saddened and consecutively enraged by the way the world is treating you right now. I’m sorry.

I’m sorry that if you were a man, this would barely be interesting, out of the ordinary or nationally newsworthy, it may have been talk in your community but if you were a man there wouldn’t be the lynch mob of slut shaming hypocrites.

I’m sorry that your life is being torn apart shred by shred by men in their basements without anything else to do but fucking make memes and watch porn. Memes about a woman in an open marriage having consensual sex with co-workers, sometimes at work? I’m sorry that a man would be celebrated for that set up while your entire life is imploding.

I’m sorry that our society promotes and sells women as sex dolls then simultaneously condemns that same sexual activity when we are in control of it.

God forbid we enjoy participating in *gasp* sex, especially kinky sex. Or mutiple partner sex. You’re clearly a whore. The men involved are faultless of course.

I’m sorry that your decision making sucked by engaging in sexual activity while on duty and I believe there should be appropriate reprimand to all involved because you weren’t fucking alone. Of all the mistakes you could make as an officer on duty or just as human this seems fairly inconsequential.

I wonder how many people have had sex at work, as an officer or a waitress or a nurse or a president? I wonder how many people have engaged in sexual relationships with co-workers when it was prohibited, I wonder how many people have had a threesome, sent nudes, or throw their car keys in a bowl at a swapping party.

I wonder if you’re struggling, as some stories seem to indicate with your mental health and/or addiction and why those signs were ignored by your employer whom should be holding a higher standard of wellness. Considering your profession deals with humanity at its worst, its not uncommon for this to create or deepen mental health issues.

I’m sorry that hyper sexuality in women is labeled slutty and cheap but it is easy entertainment for bored people and furthers patriarchal agenda by lessening the worth of a woman. I wish you had better support rather than being turned into a public mockery.

I’m equally saddened that if this story was about a woman being sexually assaulted by her co-workers it wouldn’t get this much airtime, it would be hushed and hidden. I fear your story moving forward may be used against a woman coming forward with legitimate assault at her workplace, especially an officer of the law.

I don’t know what its like to be a female police officer in this world Megan but I can imagine its full of double standards and double the danger simply because of what’s between your legs. I don’t understand or agree with your actions, but I do know there’s a human on the other side of this that’s being destroyed. I wish you strength to endure this, compassion to forgive yourself, wisdom to prevent it from occuring again and power to overcome the definition that has been smacked on you.
