Stretch for life.

When we watch world class skaters, gymnasts and ballet dancers, we tell ourselves they must be superhumans. Gifted they are for sure, but a lot of focus and hard training is also involved. Actually I always wanted to be one of them. I believe it’s an art using the body so effortlessly in what looks like gravity defying magic. I believe we have to connect and raise our consciousness to the Divine Source in order to gain such mastery of the human body. Observing those who master their bodies through yoga and other disciplines, they all have one in thing in common – they are present. They master not only their body, but the mind too. Yogi philosophy believes a weak body has a weak mind, and a doubtful mind is a poisoned mind. Discipline is necessary to overcome human distractions and weaknesses.

So what benefits does regular yoga practice gift us with?

1) We gain better vitality which enables us to age gracefully, with fewer health risks compromising our preferred lifestyle.

2) We gain inner peace and harmony and feel in sync with the world around us. *Yogi philosophy explains we are all one. Everything comes from the Source and everything will return to the Source.

3) We gain clarity and empowerment. Investigating our mind, body, senses and feelings gives us empowerment and the feeling that anything is possible.

4) We gain happiness, joy and love towards life and all beings as our biochemistry generates happy hormones through stretching, twisting, opening and bending. We feel bliss.

5) We gain a sense of freedom as we realise and accept that everything in this life is impermanent; yoga asanas come and go, relationships come and go, success comes and goes etc. The focus is on our Soul and the Supreme Source, which are permanent. The yogis believe no matter what happens around us we should never lose our sense of Self and our oneness with Source. “Circumstances don’t matter, only state of being matters”. (Bashar)
