Thoughts on COVID-19: the Natural World Doesn’t give a F*ck.

Elephant’s Continually-updating Coronavirus Diary. ~ Waylon

I’ve had several personal tragedies in my life. All of them happened to hit me in young adulthood.

I’ll never forget something a friend of mine said to me during that time:

You can keep feeling like this, but the world is going to keep moving.

No matter how I felt, and how much I tried to convey my feelings and what was going on inside of me, it wasn’t going to change anything around me.

I can’t help but think about the current situation in the world right now. It’s affecting everyone. We are ordered to stay in our homes, unemployment is rising, and people are getting sick. The economy is at a standstill.

But, if we take a look outside, the plants are beginning to bloom. The world doesn’t give a f*ck. It’s still here. The sky is shining brighter than ever. The mountains look bigger than yesterday. Could this possibly mean that every complaint we have is just materialistic?

I rarely log onto social media, but due to the long days of quarantine, I gave it another go. I couldn’t help but notice all of the b*tching and downright nastiness.

If your view is different than my view than I’m just going to block you. Oh, and I hope you die from the coronavirus.

I told two friends about the headache of my social media thread, and they both did not understand. They said all of their friends were offering help to those in need. They were friendly and simply checking in. How did mine get riddled with political rants that weren’t up for debate?

The day comes to an end and it starts again. I wake up and see the same mountains speckled with different colors, the same sun shining a different hue of yellow, and I know that nothing that anyone says actually matters.

We need the world more than it needs us. In fact, it doesn’t need us at all.

I can’t help but chuckle during this crisis—it gives a whole new meaning to that tidbit of advice I was once given.
