You can always count on a cowgirl to tell it to you straight.

I just have to say it…

It’s okay to feel BAD!

The popular personal and spiritual development movement has given us the erroneous expectation that one day we’ll get to a place where we never, ever again feel bad—that one day we can escape feelings and challenges and all we’ll hear is angels singing and birds chirping.

That will never happen—but not for the reasons you might think.

The ability to value, use, read, and flow feelings fully turns out to be one of the major keys to the full flowering of spiritual enlightenment, being financially successful, and having great relationships; it’s the key to everything. Our spiritual awakening and our bank accounts have everything to do with feelings!

Without the willingness and ability to acknowledge, accept and allow ourselves to feel all feelings, spiritual development can only go so far. I regularly see this in people who have done tons of spiritual “work” on themselves, even those who have had high flying spiritual experiences. Without feeling, they can’t maintain these experiences.

Here’s an invaluable gem: talking about lower feelings generally doesn’t move them—it usually increases them, hopelessly tangling you in story, which keeps the feelings alive.

Good, spiritual people who can’t pay their bills, who have health issues, conflicted relationships, depression, anxiety, fear about the world, and other challenges are amazed that once they learn to correctly interpret and fully flow feelings, their lives change.

The “economy” doesn’t affect us once we get this (we make your own economy). Relationships miraculously renew without a single discussion once you get this. Health improves once we get this.

Life gets great.

Really great.

So how do we know if we’ve already mastered feeling?

We look at our life! If every area of life works beautifully, with ease and grace—not through excessively hard work and toil—we’ve mastered it!

Happiness, fulfillment, relationships, prosperity, and wellbeing are perfect mirrors of our stage of mastery. And even if everything’s not working perfectly, there’s still good news: we can use this information to get where we want to go—if we know how to use it.

First we need to be willing to look at how we deal with feelings: do we love and appreciate and use them all? Or do we process endlessly, trying to understand, perfect, or get rid of ones we don’t like?

I know people are “there” when they tell me, “I love ALL feelings now. They’re all valuable. It’s all guiding me.”

Learning how to feel and truly be with emotion is a pivotal but missing piece in in most spiritual traditions. If you’ve read other things I’ve written (here and here)—you’ll know that all emotions are the same divine energy simply vibrating at different speeds. Lower feelings vibrate more slowly than feelings that feel good.

When you learn to feel feelings at the vibratory level rather than trying to manage them at the “story” level, the underlying vibration can finally move and rise.

With good intentions, many paths and modalities teach things that inhibit or slow liberation by encouraging us to do everything but feel our feelings. For example:

~ Venting to a counselor or friend, sometimes for decades, which keeps the story alive but doesn’t move the underlying vibration;

~ Journaling about problems and feelings and trying to understand them rather than feel them;

~ Analyzing and processing feelings, which gets us stuck in the story about them;

~ Looking for things to clear, fix, or heal, which never ends (have you noticed this?);

~ Having someone “heal our emotions or issues,” which makes us dependent on them. I mean, we get help if we’re about to leap out a ten-story window! But long term, don’t all of us want to learn how to soothe ourselves and tap into our deepest Divine resources? No one can do that for us.

~ “Spiritually bypassing” feelings, where we fake that we’re not feeling something negative and put on a smiley face or do a nice affirmation instead.

~ Meditating a feeling away, so that we may forget it temporarily, but then, darn it…it comes back!

~ Trying to get to the place where all we have are good feelings. This is as silly as ripping the Instrument Panel out of our airplane and installing a meter that says our fuel level and altitude are always perfect!

With the work I’ve developed, including a “diving in” process that finally shows people how to feel, people get very happy, free, and successful in the practical material world. Grace does 90% of the work for us (yup, you read that right!), but yes, there are some things most of us need to unlearn. So much of what we’ve learned simply does not work, which is why so many people continue seeking.

We can reclaim power we don’t even realize is tied up—without years of processing. We can actually experience happiness and enlightenment, rather than seeking it forever. We can become free to live in the now. We can finally have the direct experience of what Eckhart Tolle and other teachers are talking about rather than just reading about it.

Once we learn how to feel and let emotional energy move, as it’s meant to, we feel better than we’ve ever felt, more of the time:

~ We still feel, but we don’t spiritual bypass lower feelings. We value them;

~ We have a whole new relationship to feelings, and we know how to make optimum use of every one of them;

~ We learn to “bounce off of” unwanted feelings long before unwanted things (accidents, losses, health issues, problems) have a chance to materialize. If they do materialize we know what to do not to recreate that situation;

~ We stop wondering, “Why did THAT happen???”  We know why;

~ More and more we know how to change course if we don’t like what we can feel coming;

~ We begin to understand puzzling things from our past that never made sense before;

~ We stop working on ourselves, struggling, doing endless healing sessions and seminars, and processing ad nauseum—and things get better quickly!

Once we know how to feel, it’s the end of all of that work and the beginning of joyful living instead. The reason we started seeking was to find joy, not to seek it forever—remember? Remember?!?

Things we’ve all wished we could be, do, and have are absolutely possible! And yes, in Divine Openings, the Divine does the heavy lifting. Our small part is mostly about learning how to truly feel.

You’ve asked the Universe for this.

Here it is.

Let it in.

Dive in and get started on a more amazing life.
