  1. Thanks for a great intv and for the kind words.
It is an honor to be in the company of Anne Waldman. Here’s a poem for the occasion by one of my favorite poets.
    Simran xo

    The Wise Man

I seek out the wise man
to ask if he can help me with my burdens,
and he smiles gently, asks me
to sit down, pours a glass of cool water
    then tells this story.

Two men who had to cross a river
were lucky enough to find a raft
and used it to make the crossing.
On the other side one man hauled the raft
out of the water, lifted it onto his shoulders,
    staggered down the path:
I must carry it in case I need it again.
    The companion said:
I use what I need, then leave it behind.

I thank the old man, then hoist ten rafts
onto my shoulders, set off down the road.

  2. Wow. She blew me out of the water. It was like taking batting practice with Mickey Mantle…the most humbling interview I’ve done since, for whatever reason, Anne Waldman, the post-Beat Feminist poet, at one of our first elevisions.

    Mother Earth, check!

  4. I think Simran Sethi is the best thing going in enviro journalism today. She did a series called Greensburg Greentown, about the Kansas town hit by a tornado that is rebuilding green that was fabulous, and very underreported, IMHO. I think she is just great.
