Missed the Oscars? Most meaningful moment of the night.

oscar milk lance black sean penn

There were a bunch of fun (Hugh and Beyonce dancing old school) and touching (Ledger’s family’s acceptance speech) moments. But there was only one raw, politically and personally (to all of us) moment: the Best Actor acceptance speech so closely following the passage of California’s Prop 8.

Notice Sean Penn’s shaking hands, holding that slip of paper. Notice his lack of shyness in using the word ‘Shame.’ There was also a great speech by Lance Black, under BONUS below.

BONUS, Lance Black’s speech (gets great at 130).

  1. This movie Milk deserves to be seen by as many citizens as possible, so I am hoping this award will lead those who are threatened by the subject matter to take a chance and open their hearts and minds to an inspiring story. It is a movie about human rights and the relationship that truth has to freedom. Harvey had his flaws which are also portrayed in this movie to some extent, but his courage in the face of incredible hate serves as an example of what we need to do to spread tolerance and acceptance throughout the world.
