Photos: a Boulder Friday Night Review.

T Bar Lingerie Swimwear Fashion Show/Benefit at Mr. Pool. And, BMOCA hosts Art District.

Last night, I got to go out. For the last year, transforming elephant from eco magazine into eco-er web site, I haven’t been able to wine and dine and party the way I’d like to. Gone are the days when I bought double MacAllans at The Kitchen, these days I’m grateful to get a local brew at Happy. So last night was a delight: two big, fun parties with all my friends, and both were donation based, supporting good causes, and since I’m Mister Press Pass, I wrote about the events, pushed ’em to Facebook, our 10,000+ combined twitter followers of @waylonlewis and @elephantjournal, invited a bunch of friends personally to both, and as birthday boy Mark Collen said as we biked from the lingerie show to the art party, only in Boulder could you do it all while smoking a rolly and biking at the same time.

So, first I popped by the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. I was right on time, so there were only 20 folks there. Some great artists, however, include my longtime acquaintance Tres Altman (see photos below). I snapped a bunch of pics for this blog, chatted (and drank, in plastic-is-forever to go ware) with the artisanal Gin boys from Roundhouse, who were generously sponsoring, then hopped on my bike and hustled over to my buddy Deb Caplin‘s lingerie show at Mr. Pool. Can’t miss the lingerie show, you know.

Mr. Pool is, normally, a hot tub place. But they have a long, rockin’ tradition of hosing crazy loud crowded parties. They clear the place out, must take forever, and then fill it with Dave Query food, waitstaff, 100s of partons, and a fashion show. If you ask me, they could leave in a few more hot tubs, I’d hop in.

The food was surprisingly unspectacular, also served in plastic is forever to go ware. Almost all meat or fish, so as a vegetarian I can say the carrots and celery, non-organic I’m sure…were divine. That said, the party wasn’t about the food, and Query was generously donating it all, so god bless all concerned.

I invited a bunch of friends, and we all stood around yelling at the top of our lungs. It was loud. I always love how we members of the human race love to do our socializing and catching up in insanely loud, crowded rooms. The whole time I tried to answer folks’ questions without spitting on ’em. I succeeded, mostly.

The part was packed. Terry, Mr. Pool himself, has a well-earned reputation for throwing the best parties this side of Paradise. I knew one of the waitresses, who also works at St. Julien, and I knew about 1/4 of the crowd. It’s a small town. The fashion show started. Joey, who first modeled for Deb in my ecofashion show at the Boulder Theater, was jaw-dropping and tastefully elegant. My buddy Camren Von Davis had the ladies (and a few of the gents) howling at the moon. All the models were wonderful, including one lady who, though the far side of 45, was fitter than I’ve ever been in my life. And the fashions themselves were gorgeous, tasteful.

Art on the walls was unbelievably elegant. Didn’t know who it was by. As soon as the show was over, I went outside, smoked a rolly with a buddy of Terry’s, hung out with some friends (ah, fresh air…it was hot n’stuffy inside) and then biked off to BMOCA.

BMOCA, though bereft of scantily clad young things showing their rumps to all of Boulder, was…

“thank god not a 50 year old sausage fest like the other one”

…as a pal o’mine said. BMOCA itself is a gorgeous, old brick space, the dream Boulder loft for a multi-kajllionaire with perfect taste. Art District (and call me biased, which I am: friends of mine created it) featured a half dozen amazing artists. The crowd was crazy, fun, packed by now, but still there was enough oxygen for all, everyone looked cool and stylee. And, unlike most art parties I go to, the art was actually good. Interesting. There was dancing, there were drinks, there was networking with millionaire natural products types, there were lovely ladies fully dressed, and no less the lovely for it.

Photos (my lame iPhone camera is flash-less, so mosta the photos suck, apologies). If you took real photos, send ’em to me if you’re willing and I’ll post ’em pronto—especially the fashion show, which was knock-out:

Bonus: my video man and buddy Alex King’s video for Baskit, which was featured on the gents last night, and is a great ecoish company, don’t know much about ’em.
