Sometimes life is a strange, silent movie in slow motion, and we’re the boring, main characters.
Some people yawn at our expense and others just touch themselves in the dark. Nobody’s laughing yet. Nobody’s eating popcorn.
We even get to excuse ourselves for not staying ’til the credits roll, because we have to be on time for our next appointment with the Heart Doctor. (A pill is better than a cracking sound.) He writes a prescription to be filled at any Cynic’s Pharmacy.
But on our way from the doctor’s office to the pharmacy, something unusual happens. We can’t tell exactly if it tastes like blood or like chocolate but it’s interesting enough to stop and watch. It’s not like the pharmacy’s going anywhere. Or like our blood supply is over. If anything, we wish it were.
And once the credits finally roll, we realize it was a layered movie: a movie inside a bigger movie that’s still ours to direct. And maybe this time around we should also star in it, ’cause let’s be serious now, who else but you?
It’s funny how just when we’re done looking for life, she starts finding us, eh? And even funnier how love breaks you ’til it makes you, eh-hey?
