Patrick Stewart’s Moving Response to a Fan’s Question. ~ Dejah Beauchamp

Via on May 31, 2013

Patrick Stewart, known to most of us as Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, gives an impassioned response at Comicpalooza 2013 to a fan’s question about what he is most proud of, aside from his acting.

The actor, who works with organizations such as Refuge  and Amnesty International spoke out about domestic violence and said:

“Violence is never, ever, a choice that a man should make.”

The woman who asked the question wrote about the experience in detail on her blog.

Dejah Beauchamp Dejah Beauchamp has had a love of words ever since she read Alice In Wonderland as a child. In addition to raising her nine-year-old son, she makes time to nurture her love for kundalini yoga reading and, of course, writing. You can often find her in the kitchen, trying out new recipes, or outside at night, stargazing. She lives in New England with her husband, son and a cat named Oona, but dreams of sunnier climes.

I think t's great, that he took a look on the side of his father too. Most miss that.

But since my experiences are the opposite I feel it kind of sad, that he answer was not "“Violence is never, ever, a choice that men or women should make.” My father was strongly against any violence towards his children (or others!). My mother did suffer from a very bad childhood, but she never wanted to talk to anybody until she died very early (cancer). And similar to Stewarts quotes of the doctors and policemen "You must have done something to upset your husband" I did witness my father did not even get support by his own parents. They did blame him. In front of me (I was 12). That leaves an impression to a boy that lasts his life, I can tell you.

No violence is ok! But it's really a shame that women have learned to talk about it, but on the other hand still deny or suppress the violence of women towards men and children.

Thank you, Mr Stewart, that you did at least take a look at your father too.
