Update: “Best possible response to Riots.”

London Riots wrap-up.

“The blame lies squarely with a govt elected 32 years ago which systematically looted, pillaged, and squandered our national assets, institutionalised unemployment, and sold us off like cattle to foreign investors…it left us with millions on sickness benefits…”

More on why they’re rioting.

Great quote in image at top. On the other hand, three images below:

Loot some books, anyone?

Apple Store in prep for riots:

Personal “why” here.

Best video (among several “best”) here.

Report via Guardian here: “David Cameron announces recall of parliament over riots. Prime minister also says number of police officers on streets of London will be increased by 10,000 to 16,000.

Sad photo of the Day:

Aaron Biber, 89, who has run a barber shop close to Tottenham High Road for 41 years, told how the looters had stolen a number of small items, including his kettle and cotton wool, after breaking into his premises. “Everyone knows me around here — I have been here since the 1970s — but now I will probably have to close because I haven’t got insurance and I can’t afford the repairs,” he said.

Redditors are trying to figure out how to donate to this man. Stay tuned here.

An (old) message to the non-looting, non-rioting English that carries new import today”:

“What most rioters are like.”

Darcus Howe, a West Indian Writer and Broadcaster with a voice about the riots. Speaking about the mistreatment of youths by police leading to an up-roar and the ignorance of both police and the governement. Intelligent black male. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE!

(Also, did anyone notice that the interviewer tried to make him ignorant… Complete back-fire I must say)

Devastating pictures of before and after of the London riots. If you’re in the city, stay safe. (bbc.co.uk)”

In conclusion:

Scum indeed:

She did more than that – she tried to ambush him. Obviously researched his background, and tried to discredit his opinion by grouping him in with the 'rioters'. Disgraceful journalism, and wonderful example of the state of our media. Sad days indeed.

Argh, I wrote a comment, it got deleted. Now I'm going to bed…
Here's one I wrote earlier about the riots. From the perspective of a Londoner who probably worked with some of the rioters at one point! http://www.elephantjournal.com/2011/08/london-is-

The woman "journalist" definitely ambushed Mr. Howe. It was despicable interviewing, and reminded me more of
Fox Spews than BBC. She should be ashamed of her badgering and obviously partial approach. Waylon, thank you for covering this and showing a variety of perspectives of what's going on in London. Of course, now the unrest has spread to Birmingham. Bristol, and Liverpool, so I wonder what will happen next in the UK. Thanks also for posting the quote from Dr. Martin Luther King.

    Thanks for Posting Waylon.

Indeed she does sound like an idiot! Well spoken Darcus Howe.

  7. Ben_Ralston says:

Yeah, BBC is not what it used to be. Hang on, does Murdoch own it? 🙂
